K16 Sticking waste gates - how do you check?

What's the easiest way to test these in situ? - Can you hand operate them from under the car?

Thanks,

James

On the right side of the throttle body locate the boost control valve.

Disconnect the 1 line (there are 3 lines total) that splits off down to each wastegate. Using compressed air or a hand pump, apply pressure to the line (may be better to have a helper do this) and watch the wastegate rods for movement.

Thanks - can you operate them by hand (by moving the rod) to work out of they are jammed? - No idea where the throttle body is sorry!

Just moving the rod by hand isnt going to give you the whole story. You may want to have a good shop to help you out with this one.

Not yet - planning to have an initial look tomorrow PM/eve all being well/depending on work. You about?

BTW - if you need a SSK fitting I can help you with that - did mine a little while ago and makes a massive improvement over stock shifter.

I'll definately take you up on the SSK when I get one
Did you do the 997 swap?

I'll be available if you need any help tomorrow

I'm not sure your problem is sticking wastegates
True, that would cause you to overboost, but it wouldn't cause juddering and hesitation
This doesn't mean you don't have a problem elsewhere with the WGs though, you could have a problem with the vacuum lines

I'll put a list on your other thread of things you might want to check

Think your right - from what I've read tonight (attached for reference) all appears to point at the area of vacuum hose/s.

Right – post number 7 & 9 seems promising..
https://www.6speedonline.com/forums/996-turbo-gt2/168401-gt2-boost-pressure.html
Or number 24
https://www.6speedonline.com/forums/996-turbo-gt2/162846-how-tell-what-modifications-done-already-2.htm
Did you manage to locate your pressure testing kit?

PM me your number and I'll give you a shout tomorrow afternoon if I can make it. I may swing past Shirleys and get the codes read first which is over your way isn't it?

Cheers,

Jim
