Another worthwhile mod.

Another worthwhile mod.

We are all too aware of the issues surrounding the Pentosin Tank, leaks etc.

We looked to change the weak, substandard fittings on the Pentosin Tank. There is obviously 2 lines from the tank, main and return lines... the pressurized main line we think (TBC) is around 100bar of pressure (porsche don't even have the exact info on this) we have the hi pressured hose for the job but the connection was only rated to 70bar and we are not taking any chances with this stuff... so we have changed the top return line at the moment which some have complained of pentosin drips/leaks, hoses popping etc. It is a weak point with a stupid Red Hold Connection that is inserted into the tank and mine was actually seeping the odd drip... You will see that we removed the tank and welded in a threaded connection... no more stress, worrying if your car is going to catch fire!!!

Motor was already out and on stand... it might sound like a lot of work but Pentosin leaks from the tank have led to a number of cars being burnt out!

Is that fitting for the return line?

I wasn't trying to suggest that the mod wasn't worth the work. I'd think because of the work to just wait till you have a leak. I look at my motor ( the whole car really ) a few times a week.
Like you said, your motor was out and on a stand. What do you think that would cost the average owner to have a P-tech do this before a leak?

Ah, just picked each other up wrong!... The only thing I am not sure about is if it can be done with motor in!... the pipe work runs close to the back of the motor.
If motor was already out, I think anywhere between 1-2 hrs would see all work done provided they had hose, connections, etc... very simple but effective mod.

Is the return line high pressure? I understood the ribbed hard rubber line with the mechanical threaded fitting was the high pressure, the return soft rubber line with poor connection fitting was not high pressure?

You are correct... the main line hi pressure (power steering) is underneath the Pentosin Tank and the return is the one I have pictured.

It's all good 996TT_STEVO, I'm new here but have found your post very informative and thoughtful on making my car better. The safety aspect of this mod alone makes it worth the cost when you consider what might happen if a leak starts.

Cars have been known to catch fire... I also know of 2 separate cases in Europe

Here is one on 6speed (there is more)

https://www.6speedonline.com/forums/...ng-assist.html

I'm not trying to give anyone the frighteners, chances are slim but it can happen... just a simple mod that is worth doing, peace of mind and all that!

Is that a Gt2 Pentosin Tank on your car. If so, have you also done the Gt2 clutch cylinder and power-steering pump replacement. I'm planing to do it on my car to eliminate the hydraulic assist. My front Pentosin is blowing out some fluid.

Here's a shot of 996tt tank. It seems like we have four connectors. Which two for the clutch assist? Those bottom two are a crappy way to connect the hose to the tank. It seems like it's just a slip connection.
