NJ/PA Guardrail Meet

To everybody that was on the NJ/PA meet and drive today (Sept 28th), let me satisfy all your curiosity. But first, it was a pleasure meeting all of you. There wasn't enough time to enjoy all the wonderful cars.

So yes, I'm the one who met the guardrail. Nobody hurt, nobody really even shaken up to the point where they should have been. Drove home with occaisional wheel rub.

Front and rear quarter panels both suffered, but a good case of wheel rash against the guardrail prevented anything more severe. Although it looks horrible, it's nothing near like what I would have suspected.

At this point, I don't have anything/body to blame except myself (duh). I don't think I feel nearly as bad or as stupid as I should, so if anybody wants to help out there, please do.

I was at about the same speed as the car in front and car behind, and I didn't suddenly lift the throttle or break, but that much aside, I'll raise my hand and serve as the example of what happens with a car like that in the hands of the inexperienced.

It's a lesson learned the hardway.

I'll post pictures if anybody is interested.

Looking forward to the next time.

Wet roads and leaves bad. Didn't matter for anybody else, but did for me. "Don't exceed your comfort level." comes to mind.

Will snap a few photos later today.

I'd appreciate bodyshop recommendations. PM info.

seriously - go to daytona cosmocra - the board sponsor - not only will you get a discount but it is the best shop in country for porsches - dealers ship cars to them to have repaired from all over - ask for george and tell him Darren from 6speed sent you -even if you dont live close it is worth the flatbed ..... I promise- glad you are ok

Mark,
I know I am not alone in saying that we feel for you. We are all glad that you are OK. The news came as a surprise, especially since you haven't owned it for that long. I am sure if you take it to either 03C4S's or Darren's shop recommendations, it will receive the proper treatment. It was a pleasure meeting you and I hope this doesn't prevent you from coming out to play in the future. I will be posting other meet pics shortly.
Regards,
Ken

Thanks for the kind words, guys. The biggest shock to me was how well the wife took it. I'll prolly get an estimate locally just to get an idea what I'm in for, then I'll check into the other places that were mentioned to me.

I'll think positive for now and hope my slush fund covers the fixing. I'd rather not get insurance companies in on this.

Maxiter

What ever you do make sure that you take it to a top notch shop. This is so important especially on a Porsche. If you don't you will pay dearly for the repair when it comes time to sell. I don't know the reputation of the shops mentioned on the previous posts but I would only recommened taking the car that works on cars of your caliber.

Don't let the shop sell you on how good they are let their reputation do that!!!!

Good luck

Mark,

Let me add my support and good wishes to the other messages you have received. I live in the Lehigh Valley as well and if you need any assistance or add'l recommendations, it would be a pleasure to help.

On a more positive note, we should all salute Ken for his work in coordinating this meet. I certainly enjoyed meeting everyone, had a fun time, and got special joy out of seeking my Cayenne Turbo keep the pace with almost everyone. Next meet I'll bring my 996TT (only a Stage II).

Regards to all,
Loren

Meet/pictures

Maxiter- So sorry about your unfortunate mishap; I, too, on bald rear tires came close to that same guardrail- thankfully psm intervened.

Loren- you and that Cayenne Turbo were both quite impressive!- Stay in touch, I'd like to meet up with you soon, I live relatively close by. I may also be looking at a job in the Lehigh Valley this week.

Ken- kudos, job very well done with the meet. Let's do it again, maybe sometime this month.

To everyone else, it was a pleasure meeting you all as well as your cars.

Harold

Yes, and how could I forget, a big big thanks to Ken. Even though my day ended on a low note, it was enough fun meeting everybody and driving to dampen the effects.

Awesome meet

This lowly X50 (mine) was one of the least powered beasts at the stable today. More pictures to follow.

Loren- I'll get in touch if I'm out your way this week.

maxitar,

Glad to know that you and your wife were OK and the damage turned out to be somewhat minor.

Hope you get that beauty of yours back on track soon. It would be great to see you at another meet in the near future!
