Great write up but wanted to clarify one point. It appears from the pictures that the green alignment tool is placed on the old shifter just before removing the cables (and marking there positions) on the old unit which is in neutral. You than transfer the tool to the new shifter as it is installed. Correct?

How big of a deal would it be if you did not have this tool. I never used one on prior conversions. If I try a used 997 non-ssk unit, would you advise purchasing this tool. Has anyone installed a 997 shifter without the tool?

Excellent DIY thread. I bought my SSK from Suncoast too. It's one of my favorite mods.

I did mine two years ago. I think the SSK was in the low $400 range from Suncoast.

I'm doing this same upgrade. I'm having trouble trying to disconnect the cables from the plastic linkage/spring.

As others have said on this thread- this is a no-brainer upgrade. I am very, very satisfied with the 997SSK and highly recommend it to all 996 owners.

Even if you compare the latest 997 Gt3 with the latest 997 Turbo, you're not really comparing like with like. In fact, they are both so good, but so different, that, with enough money, you could justify having both.

Great first post!! Welcome to the 6, that's what I tell my wife but with 2 girls going to college the GT3 might have to wait a while

Mike, great write up. Do the side panels on the 997 also just snap off by pulling on them? Any links on anyone who has put this SSK in a 997tt? I have experience with the B+M in the 996, my 997tt has slightly different side panels and console and I don't want to damage any parts. Thanks for any assistance or info. BTW I am installing the Factory SSK from Suncoast.
