Question of Suspension Gurus!

Does the Bilstein PSS10 for the 996TT offer any weight savings over the stock setup? If so how much?
Tried search but did not find anything...

I don't think there is much weight savings in this area, although the system is more compact with the smaller diameter coil springs. Actually, because of the length of the springs in the coil over setup, the aftermarket kit could potentially be slightly heavier, but I'm not 100% sure there.

Have to agree with Mike, not much weight savings if any in this area. Wheels and brake discs are where you can find weight savings.

Thanks guys! I was curious because my installer told me he thought it was lighter than the stock system but he did not weigh either of them!

I agree with Mike too, weight is nearly the same, but they work much better! I ordered the PSS10 kit for my Cabrio just a week ago...

The better quality ride with the PSS10's was so apparent to this newbie when I installed, I can't believe Porsche doesn't make them standard equipment!

Have in mind ride height when installing pss10...do not lower the car too much, setting it to GT2 specs will set shocks to operate at front bump stops...PSS 10 is not designed for lowering over 1/2 inch...total travel of front shocks is 5,5cm...which is way to short to operate properly...

Pss10

I am thinking of PSS 10, but I want to keep the car at stock ride height. Is that an issue? Thanks.

I seem to recall weighing my PSS9's before I put them in and seem to recall they weighed exactly the same as the stock crap. I would have to imagine PSS9's and 10's are about the same weight?

Skandalis, I believe Bilstein reworked the PSS10 if I am not mistaken and gave it more adjustability over the PSS9 as far as ride height adjustment before hitting bump stops. We are riding the fronts right at the limit of the springs about 25-25.25" floor to fender. Looks great, perfect rake, and no bump stop problems (even over cobblestone/brick road).

Skandalis. I read that thread. It was very informative. I will say that by lowering the car we had to install new dog bones to get the camber back to an acceptable angle. Anyways back to topic. I do not think the weight is going to change much if at all but the handling is so different that even without the loss of weight I guarantee if u are tracking it the lap times will be lower. But then again if u r tracking the car I would go for the kws.

Skanalis,
I have a 2001 T with Techart coilovers. I understand they are Bilstein shocks with some mods...The car had been lowered and I speculate that Techart had the bump stops removed from the front shocks so as to have sufficient travel when lowered. When I hit a good size bump, the shocks appear to bottom out with a solid thumb through the body. It sounds metal to metal which can't be good. The roads are pretty crummy in SF these days. I expect I'll need new shocks to take car of that. Compression and rebound adjustable shocks sound like the way to go. At least on motorcycles with Ohlins suspensions, it makes quite a difference in handling.
