Swapping Out Shift Knobs - Pics
Swapping Out Shift ***** - Pics
Well, I decided to tackle an easy DIY and swap out my standard shift **** for the Porsche Exclusive version (bought from another 6speeder - thanks Rich!). My car has a SSK and the **** was just too long - time to go stubbier. (I know, I know - that's what she said)
With stock **** - didn't have the aluminum horseshoe:

Pulled up on the plastic clips for the boot - was worried I might snap something but they popped out pretty easy:

Prepared to pull up on the **** will all my power, based on other posts - was ready to go through the sunroof in needed. In reality, the **** slipped right off almost too easy - no hexnut on this puppy. BTW - can anyone tell me what SSK I even have?

Here's the new version, pre-install:

New **** has the backing screw - inside out version to see:

Slipping it on and tightening it down with an allen wrench:

Post-install pic all tucked in with the new horseshoe - looks a lot better to me:

Now my lonely old stocker sits on the counter by itself - don't pout, you served me well and are still in fantastic shape:

I suck at all things DIY, but this one was a breeze. I'm sure when I back my car out it will probably blow up, but for now it looks good.

I bought the shift **** with boot and horseshoe used from another member here - it's the Porsche OEM Exclusive **** that's like $400 new. My car is a 2001 996TT.
Thanks, but I meant what year car did the shifter come off? Am I to understand that it is a dealer item only and didn't come on any car?

I'm hoping someone can tell me - the SSK was on the car when I bought it, and the records from the dealer just show the install by the prior owner, not the purchase. I was wondering if anyone recognizes the logo on the rear side of the shifter.
Thanks - here's the link to it at Suncoast - looks like you could get a carbon fiber look also.

No thread on mine - it just slides down over the lever with no turning and then tightens with the hex nut.
Thanks for the info.
