Yea, this is as bad as someone in the "AutoX/racing" forum recommending brake cleaner for removing rubber marks from PAINT!!!

The stuff eats a lot of things... Most of them are finishes and clearcoats...

Ugh bummer on that eh;( My white TT came with the same wheels but I'm pretty sure the factory did actually paint them that way so I'd check on it. What does it say on your hood sticker?

Dude, go to porsche.com and build a 911. If you chose the painted wheel option, there's always a silver lip.

Dealer said all their wheels go to these guys for repairs. Dealer also said the design/paint on my wheels is not stock as there is a 1/2" silver color around the wheel next to the bead which is not stock. My build sheet shows (Option XD9 - Rims and Caps - Exterior Color- $1535.00). Anyone confirm this is not the way the stock wheels were painted?

Dealer said unless I bought the car new (no), they were probably repainted at some point. Maybe this is his out so he doesn't have to provide brand new wheels if I complain.

I'm perfectly happy if the wheel company matches the exiting color and they don't discolor over the years.

Repair is scheduled for next week.

Comments?

Thanks.

Yikes. Looks like they've sprouted. Definitely Tim Burtonish.

If anyone else has colored wheels with the silver lip and could snap pics it might help support this guy's case with the dealer. I'm betting the refinishing company is going to have an issue replicating this and they are looking for an out. Or it's more expensive to replicate and they want to be cheap. Lastly - "we always ship wheels to these guys..." that would bug me. Just because they get used often whenever these guys goof up doesn't mean you have to use them or that they are qualified - just that they have done a good enough job in the past to get the customer back out the door. A clear powder over everything does sound right though. Many machined looking wheels have this because it prevents oxidation on the exposed aluminum - beats having to use aluminum polish!

Almost all aluminum wheels are painted, except some of the CNC ones. My champion/RAC's were anodized. Did the OP try to lightly compound off the stains? My guess is that the stains were loosened break dust that filled the pores of the painted surface? Maybe a light color sanding with 000 could remove them versus having them repainted?

Thanks - The wheels are now being painted the matching Carrera white to match the car.

They powder coated one of them first for me but I thought it was too bright as you can not pick different shades of white for powder and the center caps would not match. They said they could do the silver lip but weren't too sure how straight it would be.... rather than take a chance I elected to go with all white.

Thanks for everyones help.
