Carrera GT test drive
Carrera GT test drive
Yesterday board member Kerry (HABITAT) and Myself headed over to Jersey and did a test drive in the CGT
Kerry is friends w/ the GM, so he hooked us up for a good 15mns. Probably one of the best 15 minutes I've ever had in a car.
Thoughts: 1st gear is pointless, probably better to start off in 2nd. Clutch needs getting used to. Its very hard to push in. The ride is really really stiff .. you can feel every bump. Punching the pedal in 2nd or 3rd gear is insane!!
Oh and the sound of the engine reving is another story
I think some people almost broke their necks looking at us driving by ... especially the kids in the rice mobiles
Here's a link of "The Carrera GT Drive" ... a little somthing I put together really quick. Hope you guys enjoy
Big thanks to Jim and Mark.

I'm guessing you guys didn't do any high speed hard braking cause that unbelted passenger woulda hit the windshield - hard. the braking Gs in the car are staggering.

We did get it up to some fast speeds, but nothing crazy. Rush hour was in effect. If the photos and link arent working, the server thats hosting it is probably running slow. Maybe refreshing the page helps. If it keeps up, I'll try hosting it somehwere else.

I was following the CGT in a Cayenne with another employer for about 5-10mns. When we both got to a red light, the GM jumped out of the Carrera and let me ride shotgun in it. It was almost like a chinese fire drill .... I was sooo excited that I forget to put on the seat belt. Wish we could've took it home for the night

Ben: I seriously doubt the braking g's on your car are "staggering". In fact, they are almost assuredly not dramatically higher than any other performance street car.
Your braking is heavily limited by the tires. Since you are on street tires, then you get to cg, suspension, rotational inertia, etc. Your car probably performs very similarly to my Lambo. I have 255,345 versus your 265/335 tires. You will be lucky to pull over 1.2 or maybe 1.3 g's under braking (as long as your under about 120 mph). My Porsche brakes comparably to the Lambo as I believe, your car brakes similarly to our Pcars.
Now, on the track will you outbrake us (heat management issues become important), yes, I expect you would. But, for any normal stops, there's not a great difference.
Braking misconceptions are just a pet peeve of mine, but I still love your car.
