Getting some work done....

Its amazing how one thing leads to another. I am getting ready to have my exhaust and suspension installed (Switzer and PSS10s) and I start think, ya know, while they are right there I might as well go ahead and upgrade my turbos. I have the X-50 24s so I am thinking the 24/18 upgrade. My mechanic (Akram) said it would save me some bucks in labor since, as I had figured, they are right there already doing the exhaust.

Then he tells me that I might want to consider intercoolers since they are also right there and part of the exhaust install and would only be $100 in labor. He siad that is a big bang for the buck HP gain. That here in Houston the temp of the air going into the stock 996TT engine was measured at 180 F and that intercoolers would bring it down close to ambient. He said it is a a gain of as much as 70 HP.

So I am thinking of going for it but would be interested in members opinions. I am also wondering if anyone has or has had a similar set up dyno'd and what kind of HP they were putting out.

Everything he said is correct. You will not be disappointed. Once the mod bug hits you are screwed!

Don't forget the injectors, and FPR . ..

I mean, while they are in there, you don't want to go lean . . its a safety item

Had a virtually identical setup done in Houston as well. The IC's are a huge improvement especially in our weather conditions. You should see around 575wheel with that setup on moderate boost and race gas. I have since made the jump to K24/20's but you will really really like the 18's they wake the car up for sure.

could always do the IC's later when change coilpacks/plugs... not sure if IC has any impact on the tune. but may as well... since you've already stepped into the black hole.

And I know that everyone who has posted knows exactly what it feels like when the "Need 4 Speed Bug" hits you! The funny thing is since the P is in the shop I am driving my SL63AMG and it seems sluggush. I never thought that would happen. Jeeeesh!

Injectors and FPR - thats kind of the other side of the engine isn't it. The top as opposed to the bottom. But ya know, if its a safety issue...

Rick, be careful with 24/18's as you WILL need to rebuild your Tiptronic sooner than later..

Don't worry about Sean he can't beat 24/18's with what he has now.

I'm not sure. We have decided to do the ICs along with FPR and DVs. BUt we have not yet talked brand on the ICs. Do any of the Houston members know what Akram usually uses?

I figured this is something I should look into and have just started to research it but have not found a lot of info on one brand vs. another.
