Is it possiable to change the location of the intake?

I was wondering if there is anyway to by-pass the entire intake track and install K&N intake filters to the coldside of the turbo? This would eliminate the need to upgrade the rear intake pipeing and would only be good for dry days. The only issue I see is being able to relocate the maf. Anyone have ideas on how this could be done?

I don't understand why the maf wire couldn't be extended to reach under the car. Nice hardware too bad they only work with your setup.

Just do the piping from the airbox to the turbos...

You could eliminate the MAF and go with Speed Density.

Speed density is another way of measuring the amount of air entering your engine, but it doesn't use a mass airflow sensor. It uses the Throttle Position Sensor (TPS), Manifold Air Pressure Sensor (MAP), and an RPM pickup to read the tables to know how much fuel. You could say it is less advanced than a MAF system, but when tuned correctly they can be very reliable and accurate, especially at very high hp levels.

Vince,
you dont want to go there unless your ready to spend big bucks.... and Im sure your only looking for a easy cheap solution... bottom line- there is none..
We all would love speed density... especially on higher boost applications...
how many cars are running around like that on a stock ECU only? And how much $$$ is in those builds?
Evoms sells a kit for $895.... FVD does too.. I know AMS was working on one.. it replaces the stock plumbing only but its better then stock.
just my opinion
mark

Mark,

I am aware of that but it's not about a cheaper solution, the tiptronics have to have a different rearpipe and no one seems to have one for the tip. I know my buddy Todd over at vivid is looking into it though. He even told me that the tip requires a lot more twisting and turning along with some crushed parts. I would think for a race application a direct attachment to the coldside would yield better spool and more power since the air is not having to travel from top of the car to the bottom. This is the solution I am looking for not because it will be cheaper but for a tip car will probably make more power.

needforspeed502,

I get it now speed desity=manifold absolute pressure (MAP). That's cool since I know a lot of tuners in the BMW N54 crowed tuning this way. Since Tony@epl is on the cutting edge of this with the 335i turbo kit I will see if we can run a tune like that.

Since I'm one of the FEW people who have run Speed Density setups on these cars I will tell you it does require a lot of extra tuning to get EVERYTHING taken care of as far as lights on your dash. Even still people lie to their customers and tell them they are Speed Density when it is actually a load based tuned.

I don't see why you think you will gain extra powers on A28's with above the intake filters. The power gain will be VERY minimal. I have them because I have a HUGE set of turbos and I also have a Standalone so I CAN run a true Speed Density setup. But at your power level a Standalone would be completely stupid and the cost would make you crap your pants... Then you have to fight to get Justin to actually install and tune it.

sorry for the off topic but is not dangerous this kind of intake from the water??
I had an m3 with the air box from hamann and when it was raining i had problems because the air filter was very down and it was sucking water into the maf and the car was starting to stall

Well said... and I think that Vince can take his car to a shop that welds and make a intake for less then what any other option there is out there...
problem solved...

As far as water getting into the intake? hhmm well then water must get into the stock filter since its right below the wing right?
