6-speed vs tiptronic
6-speed vs tiptronic
I am sure this subject has been discussed before but I would appreciate some feedback on going from a 6-speed to a tip. I have a 2001 seal grey TT, 6-speed that is well equipped(sticker was 127,000), 5,100 miles, stock except for h&r springs. Obviously I have not used the car very much-bought it from the original owner 5 years age with 3,400 miles. I'm 60 + years old and with all the traffic on the roads these days,I think that I may drive a car with tip more than my 6-speed. Thanks in advance for any input from any one who has gone from a 6-speed to a tip or any tip owner with their thoughts on their cars. Charlie
Don't listen to these Tip Haters I would bet most have never ever driven one. I have owned 4 Porsches and all have been Tips and I have loved them all. I would not own a manual for the same reasons you mentioned. Put the car in drive and go if I want to shift the car put it in manual. No second gear pop out issues no clutches to replace. So if you feel you would dirve and enjoy a Tip more tahn go for it because isn't it all about enjoying the car.
There is no use in owning it if you don't drive it. Go test drive a Tip and if it works for you make the trade and get on the road. I love mine- even after owning 2 manual porsches.

I couldn't live with a tip, PDK- now that's different...
That being said, I drive a ton of miles on SoCal freeways- and I have my 4runner with an auto for that. Driving my turbo in traffic isn't a whole lot of fun.

Another thing with an 01' with 3500 miles you car will comand a pretty penny and you should be able to pick up a TIP for a good deal. So why not flip the car for one you will actually drive and put a little coin in your pocket. I bet if you listed your car here it would get alot of action but remeber it is June and now is the time to sell.
Obviously you are not looking for power but comfort; Tip is perfect for you. I don't know how the weather is like at SC, but nothing beats crusing in a Tip + Cab under good weather... and you still have a hand for a cup of coffee.
I want a true sports car, so 6 speed all the way baby....unless I had PDK.
Tip=18-20% parasitic drive train power loss and will need very expensive upgrades if you want to take advantage of what is truly special about these cars, the Metzger racing motor.
Finally, I want an engaging experience in my Porsche....autos are best left to Mercedes.
