Enzo #400
Enzo #400
Is this ancient news? I just found out about this now. Glad to hear the proceeds are going towards a very good cause.

During the press conference yesterday, held at the Vatican, Jean Todt announced that President Montezemolo had decided to construct an Enzo "number 400", to be donated to Caritas, before being auctioned and the proceeds sent to the victims of the tsunami in South East Asia.

How much money would Ferrari be losing doing by doing this? Not that it matters, but considering that the car has a MSRP of $650k (correct?) woundering how much of it is shear profit for Ferrari
Pretty difficult to tell. Lots of R&D and equipment involved, so it makes it pretty hard to define.
Just a guts feeling, but I think Ferrari "makes" around 100-200k (yeah, kinda big ballpark! lol) on each Enzo.

But they're not really losing R&D or equipment costs on this one because they are fixed costs. The variable costs are really just the materials, labor, electricity, etc it takes to build one. I bet that's no more than $150k at the absolute max.

Pagani is different. They are just a few craftsmen making a great but very traditional car, and they outsource the engine.
Ferrari is way more innovative, ie full CF, automated tranny, in-house high-tech engine, super modern aerodynamics. Very nice, and very epxensive to develop. Anyone in the know care to compare how many people R&Ded the cars and for how long?
Not that I wouldn't take the Zonda over the Enzo.

You are right the Egnine is a outsourced to AMG but I dont think AMG is giving it away for free! The latest version of the Zonda now has 900 kg of downforce at 200 mph which I believe beats the Enzos 600 kg.

Finality, I'm pretty sure buying the engines from AMG is MUCH cheaper than hiring a whole crew of engineers for a few years (at the very least).
Actually, come to think of it...Pagani's only revenue is a few cars a year, and they have to pay for the building(s) and crew ... whereas Ferrari has much more revenue, but already has most buildings and such. I guess F1 costs a crapload!!! lol
Downforce is an interesting value, but I'd be curious to know the SCx of both too.
