Is the F-1 shifter like a tiptronic where u can keep it in drive, or is it a manual with no clutch. Do you always have to shift gears????

I don't exactly understand what you're asking, but you cannot just "stick it in drive" and go - you must select the gears. It's a manual with a clutch, also... you just don't operate the clutch.

You always have to shift gears. It does not provide an automatic mode. However when you slow to a stop, it will automatically downshift for you without changing the engine RPM. When sitting at the light, it will remain in first with the clutch disengaged, When you take-off, the clutch will automatically engage, and then you'll have to shift. Shift are 150 ms in race mode and will over-rev aggressively on downshifts. When not in race mode, the shifts are much softer and less over-revving occurs.

When accelerating, you can shift as fast as you want without letting up on the gas.

Sorry SUneal, guess I should have been more clear. While i now have the answer to my question, I was comparing it to porsches Tiptronic where you can shift gears or you can put it in drive and the car will shift gears for you.... Thanks for the replies....

It is not an automatic tranny, but rather an electronically controlled manual gearbox (compeltely different systems). I know the F430 will shift gears for you in Ice and Wet mode, and I believe it also has an auto mode that is selectable. Not sure on the 360 - also not sure why you would ever want to use it even if it had one .

I dont. That is the reason why i would never buy one. I would only want to shift, and with a clutch at that. Thats why i was confused. All these hard core drivers around here are buying a car that is basically an automatic. That is what I was trying to clarify. Only 6 speeds for me....

F1 paddle shift might not be as fun as 6speed but it's been proven it's faster shifting than 6speed on track.

I think the 6 speed F1 paddle shifter in my CS is as much fun as the 6 speed manual shifters in my Porsches.

It's not basically an automatic at all, it is far from it. It is basically a manual transmission.

Just because they don't get a manual doesn't mean they cannot be a 'hardcore' driver. Yes, I have a true manual.

I agree. In fact, I like the F1 paddle shifter more. I can keep both hands on the wheel on the curves while shifting much faster than you could with a manual. It's NOT an automatic. In fact, it connects your brain to the car... shift NOW.

Not trying to "knock" CS owners at all. **** if I could afford one then maybe I might buy one. However, for me, I would always prefer a clutch type manual over a F-1 type manual. Again please dont take my comments the wrong way. It is just not the car for me. I have considered a used 360 and that would be the route for me. I wish that they offered the CS in a 6 speed clutch type manual, so maybe in 3-4 years I could buy one. At 26 the Cayenne and 996 are not bad, but for my 30th B-day, I will be buying a italian biach. Though it will probably be a Lambo, however stupid that my be
