TPMS for Track

This may be a dumb question, so forgive my green DE status, but are TPM systems good for track use? If accurate enough it seems like a great way to record end of session pressures and temps for adjustments or are they not track rugged/accurate??

I've got a 996TT with hollow spokes so no factory TPMS.

I installed a set of the Orange. They are effective (at least at pressure) and cost just over $100. What do you have to lose?

+1. Bought the Orange Electronics for my OZ wheels, and plan to mount the display where the CD holder is located. There maybe some fitment issues with the Orange (Hella too) TPMS on the factory Turbo wheels. Search this forum for more info.

I installed Orange (also) on stock (solid) rims. From what I understand they don't work on hollows but that was a few years ago. I hard wired mine and mounted it in the ash tray. It is really nice to have at the track. The Hella is suppose to be a little better quality but I have had zero issues. Deadly accurate for both psi and temp.

I have the Orange TPMS setup on my OEM hollow spoke wheels, they sent me some different valve stems that work perfectly.

I find the pressure reads within 1 psi from a good manual device, at the track its a useful reference. With the R compounds I have run you have to jack up the over temperature alarms accordingly. Where these becone useful are on the long drives home from the track (still on the same tyres and rims) where I can see if I need to adjust pressures to not adversly cause wear on the tyres.

So it looks like the hollow spoke application is no longer an issue. Is that the case? I remember seeing someone went to a machine shop and had some kind of alteration done to make it work, and that scared me away instantly. It sounds like that's gone.

On the 997s, the OEM TPMS is not good enough for use at the track. It is precise, but not accurate.

Tnxs, I had this guy in Chicago do the fabrication - I think he charged in a 100 or 150. I did the garage door opener myself - easy (rear left button blank). The guy now has a template for anyone else who wants it.
