Tip help!!!

Help with '01 tip!!!

I just replaced the fluid in the front diff. I let it drain completely and put back 1.5 liters of OEM spec'd fluid. Now I am have having weird shifting issues.

When I corner hard the tip shifts and then lugs. Also when driving in 2nd it has hitches in power. Did servicing something with the front diff affect the tip?

I have also had the front cv joint out to replace the seal at the front diff. just prior to changing the fluid.

I had no issues up to this point.

Does something need to be reset or calibrated?

I just saw a note on renntech stating that the amount should be 1.2L. The dealer told me 1.5 L --could this be a matter of overfill?

The front capacity is 1.5L

The rear is 1.2L

If the car was level. There is no way you could've overfilled it as the fluid would just spit back through the fill hole.

I'd check that you tightened all the drive shaft bolts to specs and that nothing is binding. Otherwise, disconnect the battery to clear the ECU and see if that helps. If you used proper oil than I believe you might be dealing with a separate issue.

+1 sounds like either something didnt get put on right or just a different issue.

Thanks guys---

- I did have the car up only in front so it was not level. I had it up pretty high in front when I filled it. The oil was a Porsche part # 75w-90--I think it was Shell.

I used a hand pump. I pushed about 300 ml through with the plug out to flush, then one 1000ml unit and half of another (1500ml) went in. Would too much fluid cause issues?

How long do I need to have the battery disconnected to clear the ecu?

Do both positive and neg need to be disconnected?

This is probably not from 'overfill', I would re-check all bolts first, then move on to other potential causes.

Does the halfshaft have to line up with anything when it is replaced?

I assumed since it is symmetrical that there was no specific alignment either on the hub side or diff side.
