German/US Tuner Showcase?

Hey Chad,
As great as an idea as it sounds, trsut me it'll NEVER happen. I tried twice two years running to get any of the "big" dogs from Europe to come. FVD was big enough to step up (good for them too) this year but other than them foggedaboutit. They have way too much to loose. Their products are obviously awesome but _if_ they were to loose to some of the US tuners whose products are much less then they're not going to look too good as a result are they?

They have participated in events in Europe among themselves for years. I have seen some of their projects and believe me they really don't play second fiddle to anyone. No one will run away with any one event. Surely, no one will take them all. This would be close and if we wanted this to continue, it would have to be conducted in a friendly atmosphere with sights being trained on the long run.
As for anyone having anything to lose, just look at the markets. When was the last time you tuned a car for anyone from Germany? I rest my case and hope this becomes a reality.
I hear you I mean I'd love for it to happen... it's just that at the last minute, I've seen it happen before. Gemballa, Tech Art, RuF all say they have "other" commitments or whatnot.... I don't doubt their prowess in the least I just think they have more to loose than we do. Of course we don't do stuff for people in Germany but my point is that the European Tuners DO do stuff in the US so it could hurt them (that's how I think they look at it).

Well, thanks cjv for having and introducing this great idea. As I already pointed out in that other thread, I run http://www.elfer-club.de (translation is "Eleven's Club", but the website is also reachable through www.evolution911.com), which is a website and a forum for German 911-enthusiasts. There are around 5 or 6 independant, but popular Porsche forums in Germany and Elfer-Club.de is one of them.
We/I do have some contacts to German tuners and I will try to point their attention towards this event. I would be very excited about an international even too, but first let's see how realistic it is to bring over the spark to e.g. TechArt.
It surely helps that the event's homepage is so good and professionally looking. I will keep you updated with my progress. So let's hope cjv's cool idea has a chance to become reality.

I personally know Tim and Irene from the High Roller Twin Turbo Shootout. I would be excited to make any introductions or contacts to help further this dream. The best of luck on your side. Maybe we will be able meet one another one of these days. My car would definitely be one of the ones that would like to participate.
Heck, if I shipped my car to Germany I probably spend some time on the autobahn and then have Ruf install an intergal roll bar for me.

Maybe it wasn't that big of an event. You know we have only had two of them over here. Maybe they didn't realize it was worth getting involved in. In addition, maybe we need to involve them and plan it with them.
That way they will not have other commitments. As for your last comment. We have had two big contests to date, even though the biggest dog wasn't there
Please no flames.
I don't believe it has hurt anyones business. On the contrary, I believe it is good for everyone's business.
I agree full with that you're saying... and even though we've not had any luck in the past two events getting them involved, I'd be happy to help make it happen
I don't think it has hurt anyone either.

I don't think it has hurt anyone either.

Sounds like a cool event to me, but we are a German tuner not US. We are just the US distributor

Actually, we have a couple of events going on here in Germany anyway like e.g. this event, where 9ff, TechArt, Edo und Manthey came together to fight it out.

This event took place on a Mercedes Benz Test-Track in Papenburg (Germany). Manthey did win the competition with the (by far) most expensive, toughest and fastest 996 TT (268.180 Euro = ~ 382.000 USD) of that shootout.
All we have to do ist get these guys together with the US players... et voila... off we go.

Actually... I knew that (I met Mr Brombacher himself a couple of years ago) and knowing that FVD will join the next event, will help me, when getting in touch with the other players.

***** (Mr. Brombacher) is my boss and sits 2 offices over from mine
. He is based out of the US now working on getting this part of FVD built up as he did in Germany!! I am sure he would be interested in attending another shootout, and would bring a nice car from Europe
. He knows all the other tuners (Uwe, Alois, etc.) and I will ask if he would speak with them....Evan

Wasn't that event covered in the November 2002 issue of Auto Bild test & tuning?
If this thing happens please make sure that Excellence Mag. has NO part in it. They managed to kill this past event by not providing any value for their readers. The article was written as if a fifth grader with no knowledge wrote it.
Unfortunately this did not do justice to the effort and expense involved on the part of any of the tuners. The benefit for for any tuner was pretty minimal and most likely did not justify the expenses.
Shame on Excellence. I have since cancelled my subscription.

I was just to point out that events like this happen in Germany, too. Simply to show that there actually is a slight chance that this thing comes together.

We should get a webpage for that event. Shouldn't look too shabby, too not scare the big boys away.

Exactly. But there was an event in 2004, too. Wasn't limited to Porsche cars, but the 9ff 996 TT won the highspeed tuner's competition at Nardo. Was featured in "Test & Tuning" too.

Gemballa and RUF is a good approach. Maybe we should organize the way how we approach the German tuners. Maybe we should set up a German version of that webpage or at least an extensive German post about it on Elfer-Club.de so we can link to it with all the extensive info, photos, testimonials on that page etc.
