Hey everyone. I've posted on a couple of threads a few times before but am relatively new to the forum having lurked around for awhile. I just bought a 2001 996TT a couple of months ago. It is bone stock and am looking to do some mods in the future. Looks like a lot of you guys will know how to guide me on modifying my car. What are the first things to modify and what is the biggest bang for the buck since I don't have endless money to dump into the car. From my looking around it seems like the diverter valves are a no brainer and seems like exhaust is another big one along with ECU tuning. I am from the SF bay area so advice on places to go and shop around is welcome advice as well. Looking forward to your advice.

Hi,
To answer your post keeping with the spirit you have asked the question then an ECU flash will give the biggest bang for the buck.
If your stock diverters are ok changing them wont give you more power. New ones will withstand greater boost pressure and allow the engine to come on boost a little quicker. But not the biggest bang per buck.
Exhaust is the next thing and Cats if you can.
So with a flash and 0.9/1.0 bar boost. Good sports exhaust and cats will give you the best bang per buck
To keep it the best bang per buck think diverters.

A good flash on standard car 60/75 bhp
Good exhaust & cats & Flash maybe another 20/25 bhp

Exhaust are a many.. form $2 K to 5K... ecus are generic as well as custom tuned..
prices change accordingly... make sure you know what your buying before you pull the plug...

We offer a SpeedTech X-cellerator cross-flow exhaust / EPL flash bundle for the 996TT. I'll be happy to go over it with you. There are several options in terms of sound, power and price from a perfect, civilized daily driver to as aggressive as you would like it. PM or email me for package price details, if you're interested.

can do that with stockers.

OP - consider carefully, research options until you're blue in the face to avoid issues or re-upgrading parts later. Agree with others, exhaust, DV, Flash, better brake pads are best bang for buck and the least one should do for the 996tt IMO. after that, the clutch system.

You get a wee bit more input, but get a lot better handling and control.
