ECU Flash Problems?

So I've now read dozens of threads on the various flashes and tunes. Most of the information seen is essentially all positive.

Anyone experienced anything bad, personally or know of someone? By that I mean warranty problems, engine problems, other car problems?

Or just too many tickets?

People early on that were buying tunes from companies who had no business selling 996tt tunes had some problems but the current players - EPL, Proto, softronic, ect have all essentially perfected the art.

I fell victim to what NOLA was saying. I started off with a Upsolute tune. Hell even went with 2 different ones. I ended up going with EPL after I learned the err of my ways.

So far Protomotive and Softronic seem to offer a bit better performance for a 996 Turbo S, going to 520-30 hp. Most of the others seem to go to 490 hp, which is the same place they take a regular 996 twin turbo, for the same price. I feel like if I paid extra for a turbo S, I should get a tune that pushes it a bit more than a plain turbo can go.

So, so far, NO ONE has ever taken a flashed car to the dealer and gotten caught/denied?

Nope... I'm not really a fan of throwing my money at a dealer, but the few times I did go for some services, its never really been an issue.

The dealer won't give you any problems with a flash unless you're trying to get engine warranty work as a result of a failure (which never happens).

The only problem we usually see is it starts you down the slippery slope of modifying the car for big HP... a basic reflash is the gateway drug

No problems with flashed vehicles, but plenty of problems with Dealers doing unauthorized work for customers around here. (4-6k worth of 'extra work done) I've heard of 4 too many complaints in the past year of P-car ownership for me to ever go to either dealer local to me.

@ Robin Very True! After a very short time,it no longer feels fast...When the truth is, this limit of this car, from the factory, is too fast for the average driver to ever use it's true potential.

With a basic flash with good companies you will be fine there are sub par flashes that are turning up cars with lifted heads on cars with stock turbos and just an exhaust.

The tuning issues usually come into play with heavily modded cars not running right.

Stay with a protomotive, UMW, EPL flash IMO
