Radar unit MOUNTING solutions...anyone have clever ideas...
This is about portable units....not custom installs...
Anyway, my escort 9500ix pulled out of its escort big suction cup unit because of heat (a known issue with the escort suction unit..the new big one...). I have the unit hardwired via the sunroof power region (rennlist threads...way back). Anyway, anyone have a mount that uses the sunshades?
Our TT rear view mirror casings are plastic and won't likely support too much....they are easy to remove if you ditch the LED light on the tiny circuit board.....
Here is the basic idea...seems it should work for us too:

Or other ideas?

This could be a temporary solution. I bought one with my 9500ix.

I don't use that clip, though, because it obstructs the rear-facing antenna on the 9500ix. Something to keep in mind with any mount of this type. I use the large suction cup mount from Escort and I haven't had any trouble, even with the 100+ degree temps we've been having this summer. The mount hasn't moved since installation. Make sure you windshield is squeaky clean on the inside and use a little moisture to ensure a good seal.
I haven't hard wired mine yet, but I want to do it soon. Do you have the link to the DIY that you followed?

I don't know where the link is, I did a search on rennlist and seven versions popped up.....standard 996 stuff for the most part in terms of the wires. I used some radio-shack stuff to get it done. Took under an hour. Harness work is hairy, so a stereo shop may be a better bet in the future....could be an expensive fix....
I have the OME suction cup too (had). Not an issue of attaching to the window...it held on ...the actual suction unit came/comes undone due (spring becomes visible that when new is not seen...yada yada yada) to heat with time. I found a bunch of people on the net with the same issue. Possibly a bad batch...who knows....

I use the older twin-suction cup mount on my 8500. I used to have it stuck below the rear view mirror, but hated the fact that it obscured my view and was easily visible when looking in the windshield. I found I could easily mount it near the top of the windshield to the left of the rearview mirror. That puts it up above eye level, but it's still very easy to see. Also, it can still be seen when looking through the windshield, or even the side windows, but is much more "hidden" from view. In that position, it will interfere a little with lowering the driver's visor, but that's much less of a problem for me than having it obstruct my view when mounted under the rearview mirror.

+1 Escort replaced it without any questions (besides my order #). Also, I noticed a drop in the warning signal distance when mounting under the r/v mirror so stood away from mirror mounts with the escort. I can't find the link for the one I was looking at but believe it as a mustang site.
