2002 996TT headunit install

Hello all,

I recently tried to install a Becker headunit (7941 Cascade), which has the same wiring pinout as the OEM headunit (CDR 220 - Boss amp) ... at any rate when I installed the new Becker system, I did not get any sound but the headunit works.

I searched the forum but could not find anything that address this issue ... Please any help would be highly appreciated.

Thanks,

Az

The Cascade has everything you would want in a headunit. For me I wanted something looks like the OEM unit and plays MP3.

I'm not familiar with the Becker head unit, but... If it is like the Pioneer (which I installed), there are two types of output wires - speaker out and RF out (RCA connectors). If you are connecting to the OEM AMP, you would need to use the RCA plugs out of the head unit - you cannot plug the speaker out on your new head unit to the RF in on the existing AMP. On the other hand, if you want to bypass the Bose AMP, then use the speaker out, but you would need to wire directly to the speakers.

EDIT - The wires in the Yellow connector are the ones you need to connect to the RCA plugs is you are going to use the AMP (provided it does not require a security code for activation). Here is the wiring diagram for showing the connector:

Here is the "Coles Notes" for the AMP bypass:

Thank you for the wiring, but on my car I only have one wire in the yellow plug.

I attached a comparison between the OEM unit and the new one

I have an 03 w/ the fiber optics from the head unit to the amp and the 6 disc ex. I was told i would have to change both the amp and head unit to get a after market radio to work. Also this Bose system uses lower ohms and not just any stereo and amp will work.
What options that won't cost 1K+ do i have, if any?

I was also told by a new Porsche dealer that any 02 or 03 CDR2 head unit needs the part # & the VIN # of the original car to be able to get the codes from Porsche in order for me to be able to buy a used CDR23.

My radio turns itself on&off randomly and when it does stay on after doing this ( sometimes it does it all day ) it has no memory of the sound and fader settings. Plus the single cd player in the head unit doesnt work so you have to use the 6 disc to hear cd's. I dont care about keeping tbe CD ex becausr I'd rather use my ipod.

I bypassed my AMP and found the sound was as good or better. The new head unit has a 4 X 60W internal amplifier. Trying to get a new head unit to work with the existing coded amplifier is impossible. Theft prevention is working against you on this one.

Does anyone have the wiring diagram for the 03 radio/amp?

No sound either

Attempting to use factory amp with aftermarket Jvc head unit. No sound coming out.

Is the Black/w/red stripe wire, (the only one i have), coming from the smaller yellow plug, my factory Amp Turn on? .. hence it should be connected to my head unit's amp remote/power antenna connection?

thanks.
AJ.

Yep solved. Give me about a week and i can send you a pic of my rough diagram i saved. Ultimately worked fine through the amp. Had to make sure i grounded the stereo alarm wire, so alarm wouldnt go off agter about 5 mins .
