model year vs mileage, need help guys
hi everyone,
I'm very close to purchasing my first p-car and your help would be greatly appreciated. I'm trying to decide between 2 996 turbos,
option A is a 2001 w/30miles for $50,000
option B is 2003 w/60miles for $40,000
both are similar in terms of options.
Thanks for any input

If I could do it all over. I would buy one of the already modified ones from the classifieds right here. You can assure they are enthusiast owned and they have some really great deals.
You will be amazed how fast money flies out the door on modifications on these things.
If those where the only 2 options in the world, however, I would chose the 03 and spend 10k on maintenance, turbos, exhaust, and tuning.

01 seems a bit expensive unless its in perfect condition and has some mods.
I just bot an 01 with 24k miles because I drive very little each year and it had several mods I would have done myself. From what I have heard these engines are very strong so 30k v. 60k shouldn't make a difference. Its more down to what you prefer/how much you drive. If similar condition save some money so you can start buying the extras immediately.

I probably wouldn't pay that much for an 01 in today's market...not so much because the specific example you're looking at isn't worth it but because what happens if you need to sell the car urgently? That is big money for an 01 in todays market IMHO...so I'd hope the car is fairly significant to justify it. Keep in mind that I own an 01 so I'm not trying to discriminate.
If the cars are similar with regard to overall condition and modifications, I'd likely pick the 03, but that is going off the information you've shared with us only. Best wishes!

FWIW: I bought my 01 996tt with 60k miles for only 38,5. I knew I would build and modify (and therefore repair along the way). I expected to spend $50k, afterwards.
Now, I have a ROCKETSHIP that should top 205 at the mile. For FAR LESS than I would have spent on a new one!
I could have stopped short on the first $10K and come away with a really nice stocker. But, I know myself better than that. So, that would be my rec.
As an investor, if I can't get a deal, I don't bother.

to frankster: are you recommending the 03 with higher mileage and lower price?
Just a note to everyone, I know these prices seem high but I live in Canada and that's what they go for around here. There's just way more selection and better pricing south of the border
