996 Turbo Winter Tires?

I just bought an 02' 996 Turbo and want to put a set of Winter / Ice tires on the factory 18" Turbo Twist wheels.
I am sure this has been done many times before, but I can't seem to find winter tires in the OEM size. What tire brand and size are people using?
Thanks
g

Wow, that is a big height difference between the front and back. 225 40's are 25.1" dia and the 295 35's are 26.1" dia.
Are you sure the fronts aren't taller? Maybe like a 235 45?

I agree. I have yet to find anybody that makes a rear winter tire size that'll match with the fronts available on the market and fit the stock rear rims. That's why Porsche says you need to go down 1" in the rear rim width to run winter tires.

I'd just worry about bead separation in hard cornering with these since they're the absolute minimum on an 11" rim. But that's tempting since I drive my Turbo year-round and I'd hate to buy another set of rims. I already have the stock 18" GT3 rims in my garage, plus 19" HRE's on my car.

I would buy a set of wheels. I can't imagine changing the tires on one set of wheels twice a year. Just follow Tirerack's recommendations. I went with whatever Dunlops they recommended on inexpensive wheels.

The car is a beast in the Ice/Snow.

I went through the same thing early in the season and could not find a good fit for the stock 11" rim. I went with a new tire wheel set from Tire Rack - 225/40/18 fr and 265/35.18 r. I went with Blizzack LM 60's. So far we have had over 14 feet of snow this year and I have had no issues getting around.
