996tt Top Gun Shootout

Chad,
Racer,
As far as brakes go I have stainless steel lines and pagid pads with brembo fluid. Before this event I may have additional work done. The suspension is a KW V3 coilover system, so no worries there. I will probably add the swaybars prior to this event.
Thanks

Hamann, I would love to meet you and see your car. There was no intended reference to backing down. Up to yesterday, no one knew what was involved. Liability, others driving your car etc. are all good reason why someone might not want to participate.
racer63, why do you want to equalize? I'm sure Dave will describe what each tuner has done to the car as well as how it performed. They are all going to be different. You must be old enough to know few things in this old world are fair or equal.

Regardless of my criticism, I still look foward to reading the article! I like the idea for the story - a review of some very cool cars. And I understand the concerns about flogging cars to 10/10.
It would be one thing if the tuner provided their own test car, so to speak, and understood the risks. But, in this case, you are using cars owned by individuals (not the tuners). I certainly wouldn't lend my car to a fellow racer who intended to run it at 10/10.
Well, ok, there's a couple of guys that I would trust to run 9.9/10s. Any way. The conclusions from the road course will be, shall we say, inconclusive (too p.c. I know, but I've already been rude once
). But, the idea of getting a feel for how these different beasts perform, even if subjective, is still interesting from a "story" perspective. I just wouldn't exactly want to call it a "shoot out", unless the title of the article were "shoot out at 7/10".

Buddy,
We are trying to get Michelin to comp Pilot Sport Cups to all participants. The Techart GT Street S has 19" wheels. If Michelin provides, I understand the TechArt car may have something different provided through Michelin. I understand Michelin is coming out with a DOT street legal race compound 19 inch tire.
I am hoping to have more information tomorrow.

I agree completely with your 7/10 observation, but, I wouldn't let my car go to driver X at 10/10 either. Hmmm! I don't think I could tell well what a car would do at 10/10 when I only drove at 7/10.
On the other hand, if someone really has their car set up well, this will get over emphasized (7/10 well set up will be much faster than 8/10 not set up well). Difficult to do a truly objective test but, I still want to see the resluts/opinions.

!!! chad this is a test for your new TV show right? "Saturday Night at 7/10's" -- a new laid back concept for a hectic 10/10's modern world....
the ricers won't be impressed unless you shoot out at 7.345321 tenths. gotta please your audience.
porsche drag races? why use a track? go down and street race in commerce.
and the write up:
" while i would have a better feeling for each car, if i coulda run them harder, they all had their strengths at 7/10's, and i could still take cell phone calls at 7/10's, key in today's world.
we should've let the owners drive their cars at whatever 10's they felt like to show off their cars. and since we only went around the block once, i can't predict how many times they'd each go around the block with out breaking. and any power ricer would kick their *** since ricers go 10/10's...
and i can't wait for the next 7/10 nutless shootout where chad unveils his super duper whip it out monster motor running on real NASA rocket fuel, i hope they invite me back to valet the car again"
ad nauseum.
tyson,
i dont think roland would consider driving the cars in an open road test without hours of seat time in each to see that they are trustworthy and safe, but it's easy enough to see how they do if they show up for the route 318 race in june.
but we know that won't happen!
God Bless You Chad, you've started in new trend!!!

I look forward to seeing this event. However, as I've said before, this is hardly a top-gun shoot-out. As no less than the head of Porsche's engineering division said "It means nothing if a car can do a fast lap. It needs to do that time for 20 laps, 40 laps, and then do it again the next day"
And don't you have to drive these closer to the limit in order to see which is the "best"?
And, will things like nitrous be allowed?

Watt,
We are going to have a modified GT2 there also, problem is it will have to run ten tens just to stay up.
You only have a month to sell your car before word is out resulting in it's value spiraling downward.

For those of you who don't have a flavor of what this is all about, look up Dave Colman's article in the Excellence Issue Number 100.
Incidently. the photo's of the event will be handled by Pete Stout, the editor of Excellence.

deanger,
Everyone knows you can't run nitrous in a Porsche 996tt. Why then would it be a concern?
Just think of it as another turbo charger and it will make you feel better.
watt, deanger, racer63,
If one of you would like to enter, just let us know. After the professional drivers run the cars, there should be some extra time. You are welcome to show them what ten tens is all about. I'm sure Dave would make a note in his article as to how well some of the owners did themselves.
