Very sad indeed...

I had a salesman tell me once a C5 corvette would take a roundabout under an overpass at 60 mph once. I did not let him "show me" though.

What about the idiot in the truck that pulled out in front of the salesman in the article. Last time I checked you had to have adequate clearance to pull out into traffic even if someone is speeding...

Agree completely on the sad part.

As for the truck-driver; well, I'd certainly need more details before declaring him an "idiot." Keep in mind, this probably occurred on a rural road with a 35 or 45 speed limit. The article suggests the vehicle was going about 90 at the time. Most "regular" drivers cannot sufficiently gauge the closing speed of 90+ and know how much room is required. My guess is that the truck driver either never saw the car, or saw what appeared to be sufficient room because he didn't expect the car to be closing at 50 MPH over the posted limit.

Given that the salesman tested positive for alcohol and marijuana, the son's comments, and the salesman's priors... I think (IMHO) it's pretty clear where blame should be placed for this unfortunate and wholly avoidable incident.

In VA, at least, you lose the right away if you're excessively speeding. It can be quite difficult for the average person to judge how fast a car is coming, especially if they're not used to seeing cars barrelling towards them at 90+. I place every single bit of the blame, in this case, with the ******* salesman.

Agreed. I had two friends in high school die at the hands of a kid on a motorcylce coming at them at over 100. Ever just turn your head and see a headlight way down the road and think"yeah, plenty of time" and turn? That's what they did and proceeded to turn. By then he was on the car. The impact was right in front of the driver door and the impact cut the car almost in half and flipped it over. All 3 died.

First of all, this is a horrible story and the kid will have that image burned into his head forever.

That being said, can anyone explain this:
"driving under the influence of a controlled substance"

Marijuana stays in your system for at least a month so how can they prove he was "under the influence" without hard evidence?

I looked this up and it is in fact true... In VA you can loose your right of way for speeding! The law does not even define what level of infraction that you have to be at to loose right of way. Thus you could loose ROW for 1 mph over speed limit. I think that it is a very bad law. Excuses bad driving for one group of bad drivers ie senile or moronic while putting all the blame on another group they love to target ie speeders... Cant find any mention of this in TX whew!

Rant off... Here is a link to the law. Notice it does not say excessive speed or any speed other than above the limit (unlawful). This basically allows police to assign blame based entirely on their bias.

I hate VA driving laws... We got a bunch of clowns in office and under 'State Trooper Hats' around here...

Wow...imports of lancaster is one of the biggest used EVO sellers in the east coast; shame that the father & son had to die at the careless hands of the stupid salesman.

My condolensces.
