Use race gas or is it a waste$ at track?

Hi Guys-
I have EPL stage1 91 oct program along with exhaust, DV, and new air filter. I'm running at Laguna tomorrow and wondering if I get any real benefit from the mix of 100oct gas. There are 5x 30min runs so car does get plenty of work and heat.

Called EPL and waiting for the call back but let me know what you all think/do.

Hey Eric,
I'd say every time you use 100 oct gas, it will help; but I don't think it worths the doubling of the prices especially the weather is still on the cool side. Have fun tomorrow.!

I just received my Super Bandit last night... I'm all set for 4/30.

If the car is not tuned for 100 Octane, it will not make a difference if you use 91-93 or 100 it will burn the same. Same principal if you have a car that runs 87 and put in 91-93, it will run the same and get about the same gas mileage as when its running on 87 because the system is designed to run on that octane.

Higher octane fuel burns slower. Actually if you don't need to slow the burn rate, you will run slower using an octane rating higher than what is needed to acheive full ignition advance. The most power will be made using the lowest octane fuel the motor will run on at full advance without knocking. I learned this from LSR champion Don Vesco when running on the Salt in '85. I did get the highest speed this day in the motorcycle classes, guess I learned something.

I had the same tune and picked up ~30hp on 100 oct. Even with the 91 tune, there was some timing reduction -especially through peak torque. No knock sensor activity with the 100 oct. I would run the 100 mix, especially if on stock intercoolers for 30 minutes of hard driving. That said, I don't think there's any danger of running the 91 -the factory failsafes are good.

Run the 100 octane as a failsafe.. I ALWAYS, ALWAYS run at least 93 octane and preferably 100 octane if I can get it at the track...It will also help the engine run a bit cooler. Only issue is that my Car with the EPL tune gets 6 mpg at Laguna!!!! .. Makes for about a $300 Gas bill over 2 days...

Couple times I have tracked my GT is was getting about 20 minutes of track time and burning 7-8 gallons of C16. $100 for 20 minutes of driving. I think it was 3-4 mpg.

I'll probably run 93 with a couple of gallons of 100 or 109. Specially now that race gas shot up 30% its a pricey hobby.

Cheers- thanks guys, sounds like a mix is the plan. Yah this group has a lot of time on track so expect to burn through a few tanks including my drive to/fro.

With a boosted car run the race fuel.. Stay off the oxygenated fuels unless you have upgraded injectors and pump. The race fuel will be more forgiving with high intake air temps and the ecu will pull less timing. Enjoy the track.

It's just good insurance to run better gas at the track. It's a hell of a lot cheaper than a new engine if you were to get some bad knock.

Unfortunately I didn't get a chance to run mire than 1 1/2 sessions. My back right MPS Cup developed a bubble on the inner sidewall and the car got loose. Limped it back to the pits to see why the car was shuddering so badly and hope it was just a build up of rubber ***** on the tire. Pulled off the wheel and youncould see it was disfigured. Put the spare orange wheel on and called it a day.

New tires, rotors, pads, flush, GT3 air scoops, <30mins track time at bedding speeds.
