Spark Plug Change - How Often ?

K24/18g, 60 lb injectors, Proto tune on 91 octane, currently running PK20PR-P8

5k, 10k ? More ? Wait for hesitation/misfires (I prefer not to do this

Just curious what others are doing.

Thanks.

Tj Hunter is infamous around these parts
What does the manual say as a recommended change interval of the Turbo? I checked my 996 Carrera TIS and it looks like the change interval is every 24000 miles. I would personally change the plugs every 15-20K miles.

i do mine every spring before the "season" starts. once you do it the first time yourself, you see how simple it is. not to mention plugs that EPL told me to use are very cheap ~2$ a piece. i had paid to get it done once at a shop and that was a waste...

Car isn't stock, 91 octane tunes can be on the rich side from my experience ..

Not sure I would want to wait that long but will take you recommendation under consideration.

If your tune is custom why are you running rich? You should be able to change your fuel tables so that you are at a constant A/F thus, not running rich...

I just did the original plugs and coils for the first time at 30K on my RUF 550 Rturbo which is a K24 based set up running 1.1 bar. When I pulled the OEM plugs out they were still in good shape, the tips were slightly grey. There was no problem with the original coils but since I was in there I replaced them with the newer 997 coils. The plugs I put in per RUFs recommendation were the OEM Bosch FR6LDC. The car ran strong and smooth before and I can't tell any difference after the swap except at initial idle at cold start up seems a touch smoother. Porsche has a 30K plug change interval and that seemed fine on my car. I would imagine that if you are runnning more then 550 or 600 hp than a slightly shorter interval may help but otherwise would seem to be an overkill. Just my experience.....

I would recommend every 15K based on my experience with a similar package for many years...Mine went bad at 22K with 24/18G and fuel. 15 K has never been a problem.

Has anyone posted a diy spark plug change on a 996tt? Pictures of how you get to them from under the car on a lift?

the better question is how often do you drive your car? or is any race fuel being fed to it?

It really depends on if I was running straight c-16 for many tanks or 93. with C-16 and normal driving the plugs do not fare well. 5000 miles max but I put new plugs in before I do any real running anyway. Yearly is probably best so you can stay on top of the coils and rule the plugs out of any cel problems.

Maybe I should rephrase

To prevent detonation and to keep things cool, you need need to add a bit more fuel on 91 craptane here in SoCal. Tood @ Protomotive confirmed that his A/F ratio goals for 91 octane differ than 93.
