Check Engine Light

Hello,

I am brand new to the forum as I just picked up my 996 turbo a week ago with 42K miles. Low and behold a check engine light just came on in my car. Driving characteristics have not changed - still runs, acts normal, and has normal power. Just wondering what it could be? Kind of bummed and hope it's nothing major! Thanks in advance for your inputs!

Yep, easiest way is to go to Autozone, they'll do it for free. Then look up the code on this site.

BTW, do you think I can still drive my baby w/o damaging the car for a couple of days or just stay off of it?

Thanks again!

If you can not get the codes read and you would like to drive the car try a soft reset. Disconnect the battery for five minutes then reconnect. if it is active problem the CEL will come right back on. May not want to drive the car until you know the codes but the real bad ones flash the CEL. If the car has been sitting for awhile it can be a secondary air code or if you have aftermarket exhaust with cats they can be bad. Good luck

I would not do anything that clears the code prior to reading them. Useful diagnostic info there.

Did you have a PPI done for purchase? Did they read all codes and reset?
