One more transmission oil change question...

I am getting ready to change the front drive and transmission oil on my 996tt. I looked in the 996tt Porsche maintenance manual to verify the amounts. The transmission change volume is 3.0L and the front drive volume as 1.5L. However there is also section 39 90 55 titled "Replacing transmission oil in final drive" which lists the change volume as 1.2L.

This is where I'm confused. I was under the impression that we just need to change the front drive (1.5L) and the transmission (3.0L) which INCLUDES the final drive. Is the final drive a separate oil change that must be done or is there just a provision to change out the final drive oil separate of the transmission oil if one chooses?

Also, can anyone confirm there is only a crush washer (900-123-118-30-M131) for the transmission drain and none for the filler or the front drive filler + drain.

Thanks....

I put crush washers on drain and fill plugs, oil will migrate out of the unsealed plugs over time. Not sure of oil amounts, I fill to it come out the fill plug hole.

John, I believe the separate section you're seeing listed at 1.2L is the rear diff on tiptronic cars. In this case, the transmission and rear diff are seaparate.

Hey Chance,
Thanks a lot for your input. I thought it was strange since the manual had the procedure to change the final drive fluid in the manual transmission section and not in the automatic transmission section. This is obviously an error in the electronic maintenance manual that I have. It now makes sense since the Tip gearbox uses ATF then the final drive has to have it's own fluid. I figured I'd check with the forum before bugging for your valuable expertise. Thanks for jumping in! BTW, you gonna make it to GI this Saturday or are you working? Should be nice weather finally....

No problem John. The pictures on page 1301, if you have the same pdf as me, are actually pictures from the tiptronic transmission rear differential drain/fill plugs. 34-01-55 (page 710) is the transmission/rear diff on the manual car, and uses the respective pictures.

Probably going to miss GI this weekend, going to be with some family.

Yep, those are the exact pages I looked at. What threw me is the fact that they have page 1301 listed under the Manual transmission section in the main index. I didn't have my car handy to look at and see that the stuff on page 1301 applies to the tip cars. Thanks again and have a good weekend!
