replacing rotors, just replaced pagid orange pads>>>

previous searches were inconclusive. i replaced my front pads last year trackside at the glen and bedded them in at the track. at my last event over the weekend, i noticed an extreme shudder of the steering wheel while braking hard from 160mph to 80mph. thinking it could now be rotors??? they are OEM with 22,000 miles, my question is could they need replacing and if so, do i just replace the rotors and re-bed the oranges in, as if they were new???
thanks in advance,
mike

If you have a lot of track days on those rotors, then it is possible that you will need to replace them, if you spin the wheel or brake assembly, do you hear constant "scraping" or does it scrap stop scrap? If the latter you may have warped rotors. If your pads are still good all you would need to do is replace the rotors and rebed the pads to the new rotors.

On stock rotors you don't even need a lot of track days. Inspect the rotors yourself, are there cracks in them, if the cracks are bad and extend from one hole to the next, you are overdue. Could also be the pads that are tapered (warped).

But yes you should bed those old pads in on new Rotors (if the pads are not tapered).

Pagid oranges are known to leave pad deposits that cause brake judder. If your rotors have the cracks extending between holes or to the edge of the rotor like referenced above, then they need changing, otherwise I doubt it's the rotors. Try Pagid yellows up front and Pagid blacks on the rears. This combination helps to balance the front braking bias that 996TT's are designed with.

Had the same problem with the Orange. They are more aggressive on the rotor than the Yellow too.

thanks for replies guys, +1 rep to all. i thought it may warped rotors>>>

will be able to get a closer look this weekend to see if they are cracked or warped.

landjet, i have heard many use this combo with great success, perhaps i should bite the bullet and replace the front pads and rotors, and back pads all at once???? i only have 1/2 a day at the glen on the new oranges up front though....

Get the yellows and blacks, then post the oranges for sale at a discount.

Had the same problem with stock rotors and new CoolCarbon pads at the track. After a few times out I had violent shudders during brake at temp. In the end I was advised to change both pads and rotors again formfear of glazing/warping. Our rotors aren't horribly expensive so i did that with new CC pads again. Fixed it right up.

Swapping from pad to pad on original rotors could be an issue for you And you might be better off (safer) with new pads and rotors.

The pad transfer material will wear off with use on the street, then just bed the new pads.
