K16 Hybrid or K24?
K16 Hybrid or K24?
I have a bone stock 996TT. It is not an S or X50.
My car has almost 60K miles and I think its time to bump up the power.
I have been looking at the K16 hybrid turbos that offered by 911tuning.com. They are the type which require sending in the old K16's, and they upgrade one side of the turbo, I believe the cold side?
Of course I have also looked into getting some K24's. I think that the hybrid K16's offer less turbo lag, but perhaps they run out of stream at high rpm?
My question to you guys with experience is, if looking for a fairly simple setup to get some more power, prefferably with minimal turbo lag and without having to do a clutch of other costly upgrades; which turbos would you recommend.
Again, I am looking for a reliable, street car that runs like it does stock, but has a bit more power. I do occasionaly take it to the track, but without big brakes or cup tires, its just for fun and not competition.
Also, if anyone has had experience with 911tuning.com, I'd love to hear your opinions.
Thanks!

Just a note... we have billet wheels for the K16... very affordable and within a 16g upgrade price... these are not 16g wheels.... they are between a 16g and a 18g as far as flow... sure we also sell the hta 7 blade upgrade but thats 3 times thew cost.... we also offer tial A28s and the likes.. including K24/18g and 20g... the bottom line is that for a fraction of the cost you get a true billet wheel that fits a K16 housing... and its not the 16g as some may confuse them to be..
good luck in your search/ finding...

Also, have you tested with a K24/18g-XT billet turbo yet, Markski? I think many are curious to see how well they perform for the 996TT platform. Could your Stage 4 package be ordered with the new 18g-XT billet instead of an 18g?

To the OP, in terms of 911tunning, you can't go wrong with Markski. He has been a long time contributor to the forum and he stands behinds his products with tons of knowledge.
It sounded like you stay stock for quite awhile, and you are not a power hungry; and you mentioned that you track your car. IMO the best option for you is the K16/16-18g because you still get the fast boost, but with more hp than now. You won't like it when you have a K24 on the track, by the time you hit the boost... time to brake.
In addition, the K16 option needs less supporting mods; I'm sure Markski will guide you to the right direction.

I'm a huge fan of the K24's for track work.. Seriously, they work EXTREMELY well.. Here's me at Laguna Seca.. I think the K24's work, don't you?

Wait, wait... Durham (right?)
If you are posting the same question, I wouldn't suggest the same answer for you. You are a speed/top end guy; I'm actually surprised that you are staying with the K24s and not going higher.
Tell me if I'm right... the way that you drive is always at the high rpm and doesn't lose boost much anyway. So... lag is not your problem.

Ummmm... I run K24's on the track and they are utterly brilliant!!! Certainly I am never waiting for boost.. I far prefer them to the hybrids I had on my 600 HP 944 Turbo race car.... The K24's are fantastic and you never run out of top end... can hold your gears up to 7,000 rpm which means you don't have to shift up, then down for some corners losing tenths of a second here and there...

The OPs post you will read that he is looking for "a fairly simple setup to get some more power, prefferably with minimal turbo lag and without having to do a clutch of other costly upgrades". Most of the K24 hybrids require at least larger injectors and very possibly a bigger fuel pump setup. Not to mention a clutch to handle that power. That isn't very simple.
