Quick second to third gearchange problem. SSK?
Quick second to third gearchange problem. SSK? PROBLEM NOW SOLVED!! UPDATE!
I am getting more and more annoyed by the problem with quick 2nd to 3rd gearchange.
I had my box out and totally dismantled so I know that everything inside is OK, or at least looks to be OK, yet still when I am racing someone I just cannot get into third without issues.
When i am driving slow, engaging 3rd is perfectly fine.
When I want to do it fast it feels as if it was not possible to push it all the way in, like if it was a 2.5 gear, not 3rd. When i get off the clutch it can even grind while in that so called 2.5 gear.
Do you guys have this too? Is there a chance it may be caused by my short shifter which feels kind of weird to be honest...
I am tired of giving it full beans from 3rd gear on!

What's the key difference between when you're driving fast or slow, in terms of how you shift from 2nd to 3rd? Is it the speed in which you're trying to shift? The force you're applying to the shifter? Some combination of both? You might try some experimentation (when you're not really trying to drive fast), and see if you can recreate the problem.
Certainly, being human, we tend to do things differently when we're doing it under stress with all that adrenaline. Seems unlikely that the SSK could be the issue by itself. At least for me, shifting became much more precise and easier after installing the 997 SSK. The long throw of the OEM 996TT shifter would seem to be more prone to errors.
Good luck.

I think the main difference is in which rpm spot the shift takes place. It looks like the problem occurs when I am trying to get into third quickly after almost-redlining the second?
Hmmm. Could be. I recall some folks mentioning that 1st to 2nd can also be tough if you take it all the way to redline in 1st.
It happens to me too when i go from second to thierd but i have a different short shift. B&M
What i do is,i go fast from 1'-2' and do slower from 2'-3' that way i asured the gear will fit in and not being in the middle,go fast from 3'-4' .
It happens ussually more often when i have done several pulls, like 4 pulls.
I'm not sure if it's the short shift or it's me.

Synchro rings and all gears were perfect, gearbox has just been dismantled a week ago to fix thrust bearings.
Anyway, now I know what my problem was!
Here it is in pics:

One of the shifter cables came loose because of the broken tab!
Now all fixed and additionally reinforced just in case:

Cannot believe what a difference it made, now I can finally shift between 2nd and 3rd with no worries!

omg i wonder if thats the prob with mine. i hate shifting in 3rd in my car racing. i thought maybe its just the shifter and like u said. its fine at slow speeds. hopefully i could be this lucky and its just a wire
I had that problem with the B+M short shifter. When the Porsche 997 short shifter went in after that ,I did not have that problem at all?? Both were put in by the same Porsche Tech at the dealer....
