On the gauge? These cars will use oil, when was the last time you checked the level?
If you show no oil pressure on the gauge don't let it idle to temp to get reading. And don't necessarily trust that you have oil in it. It's possible the sending unit could have gone giving a false reading or the oil pump could have failed. Not sure how to test the sending unit but if it's the pump or if you ran it dry you could kill the motor and they ain't cheap. Do a search for testing the sending unit here and if your not mechanically inclinded get it flat decked to a good Porsche service shop. Taking the risk isnt worth it. good luck, hopefully somebody who has had this issue can check in.

So your saying, if I understand you that when you checked the oil level with the electronic digital gauge in the rpm cluster (using the stalk to pick it on the screen) the level of oil was in the middle of the bars. Correct?
If this is true it just means your half way between full and add a quart. That's were you want to be anyway so your perfect.
But only if the above statement is correct.

If you have adequate oil levels but your oil pressure gauge is below 5bars at above 3000rpms then most likely is loose wires going to the oil pressure sender or a failed oil pressure sender. The oil pressure sender is right behind the oil filter.

Sounds like you're talking about the oil level (rather than the pressure -- which is the far right gauge).

If you're talking about the oil level, then it should be between the min and max line. 1 qt is about 4 bars. I usually wait until I'm one bar above the min and then add a qt (which will take it to about 1 bar below the max). I've heard it's much worse to be over than under.

Oil pressure gauge bounces all over the place depending on conditions. I've read that it is notoriously less than useful in most conditions.

No. I was talking about the oil pressure. It sits at about 1.4 on the pressure guage at idle.

Oil level is at half.

sounds pretty normal for a warm engine. Whats the gauge say at 3000 rpm?

1.4 bar at 900rpm idle is perfectly normal pressure on a fully warmed up engine. At 3000rpm you should be over 4.0 bar oil pressure.
