Tire choices - something for colder weather
Tire choices - something for colder weather
Today ground temperature in NY is about 37F. I have Pirreli on the car right now. Never liked Pirelli but thats what car came with
Tires were stiff as hell and car felt like its on ice.
Since I do intend to drive car in a winter - only on sunny and dry days but still in the low temperatures I need to get a different tires.
My rims ar 19".
I'm looking for something which will provide veru good preformance on dry, great handling, be somwhat tolerant to lower temperatures - nothing crazy but if it can preform at aroung 32F it would be ideal. As an added bonus I would like to find somethinng which can handle moderate rain if such animal exists in Porsche tire sizes.
Vredestein tires which are by far my favorite all around tire do not come in Porsche sizes
Also Potenza RE-11 are not availiable in my exact size but they are availiable in 245/35R19 and 305/30R19
Do you think what this size might work well or it's going to be way off.
Size difference is 3.2% biggeer than stock 235/35R19 315/25R19
Thanks

The RE-11's will be ok
you dont have a center diff like the TT's so you dont have to worry as much about the front/rear difference.
I'm using 997 GT3 sizes right now without any issues (235/35/19 & 305/30/19).
no issues with ABS either

I bought Nokian A4 for my wife's 2009 Subaru Outback to replace the original Bridgestone A/S tires. Love them and leave them on all year as they will time out before wearing out. The old tires had turned into hockey pucks so the Nokian A4 was a revelation.
I don't know how that helps with your high performance application as our Subie is a grocery getter on stock rims. Also I am in Vancouver BC, a cool and wet climate. Nonetheless, I would recommend the tires, very happy with the purchase.
I am in need of tires for my 997.1 and am considering winter tires for use all year. Quietness is a big factor for me as tire roar drowns out the sound of the engine. I would happily sacrifice summer grip for quietness.

You know, that's exactly what I have on the Porsche now, Conti DWS. Date coded 2011 though, and that's the main problem, I can't really blame decade old tires. Any new tire will be quiet for a year or two.
The more forum posts I read the more it seems to me tires get noisier with the years, even with decent tread depth left.
The Conti DWS design has been around a while now and I have to believe studless winter tire technology has advanced in the last few years. So while a new set of Conti's would let me hear that lovely flat six sound (with TechArt mufflers) again, how long before the roar comes back?
The search continues. Michelin Alpin PA4 look decent ........
