Change my spark plugs today...

Wow what a difference! I was getting a cylinder number 4 missfire for the past couple of weeks, and a slight bit of a break up on full load in 3rd.

I installed a set of ngk bkr7e's gapped to .026. This was the first time i had instaled plugs on a 996tt or a porsche 6 cylinder for that matter. Although you have to remove a lot of stuff ( wheels bumper intercoolers coil pack covers etc) i found it to be a very straight forward job, As if they engineered it to be done easily.

Once i was ready to button everything up i paid special atention to my upper intercoolers hoses that i had made to go to the speedtech intercoolers. I am certain that i had a boost leak from them earler. I fitted them well and secured the t-bolt clamps down securly.

While i was there i also drain the oil and turbo chargers and gave it a new oil and filter. I also gave it a bath afterwards

All in all the car now preforms as it should its now back to being a BEAST!!

One of my biggest hates is poor design and engineering

I did my plugs last week, and other than one of the O2 sensors getting in the way when screwing one of the coils back in place I found it to be a "nice" job to do - very well laid out given the space constraints

I don't take off the bumper or the intercoolers. I use a very short 5mm on a 1/4'' flex head ratchet. It just a bit tough to get at the coil harness plugs.

Is there a DIY for the spark plugs? I plan on changing my intercoolers to 997.2 and while I'm at it I might as well change the plugs since the IC's will be off anyways.

Same here - with a lift it's pretty easy to acess the coils & plugs from directly underneath. I removed everything the first time (Bumper, IC's, etc.), then was told/shown there is no need to...I did a complete coil & plug change in under one hour, all from underneath the car. It's a lot easier this way.

The only way you can be assured is to do a boost leak test from the turbos... everything else is wishful thinking... OEM cars even have leaks..

Yes, I have those rhino type plastic ramps and the rear has enough clearance to back on to them. It gives you plenty of room to remove the bumper, use a creeper, or whatever.
They won't clear a stock heigth car in the front. You'll need to use wood to step up and pull onto them or if your garage has a lip at the door put the ramps on the down side and pull on them.
