Question Fibreglass front bumper????

Does anyone have a fibreglass front bumper installed? Are they problematic or prone to cracking? Been offered a nice gemballa already the correct colour but worried it may crack or chip easily. Any advice? I realy like the bumper but dont want to respray every year. Tia

If it's prepared and painted appropriately by a shop that knows what they're doing, it wouldn't be more prone to cracks / chips during daily use. However, it will be more likely to crack / break during an accident due to the rigidity of the fiberglass materials.

If it's the same silver it won't make any difference what material the bumper's made from

If they use a similar colour primer you'll be fine

And if it's well painted the 'orange peel' will be similar too - although this isn't usually all that noticeable on silver cars

I'm having one installed on my car right now. I'll chime back in after I get it back from the shop and drive it a bit but I don't anticipate any issues. I do plan on having a clear bra installed over it next spring though.

I've done the fiberglass front bumper before. It didn't work out well for me. I had to replace itndue to damage in about a month. I went urethane on the replacement and drove it for 2 years until I sold the car.

I've got a fiberglass Tech Art. So far, so good.

It all comes down to the paint prep as it relates to longevity.

Go for it!

Also take into consideration fitment of the product. If it was off by a hair, then there will be high stress points especially where the screws / nuts are placed. Over time, in high stress areas, it is prone to crack due to it flexing (vehicle in motion and turns).

Urethane is always better than fiberglass. Fiberglass will crack under stress but urethane is pliable so will return back to original shape for minor bumps even sometimes without any damage to the paint.
