Short Shift just installed

I just had the OEM short shifter installed in my 04 TT Cab... For those that have not done this mod, I highly recommend. The shifts are much more crisp, and the feel is more "sporty". This is my first official modification (other than custom mats and alum trim rings), and I can see how this gets addicting!!

The short shift is an absolute "must have" and makes shifting so much more fun. It just amazes me that Porsche doesn't make this standard. My current TT has the "sport shifter" option ($750 I think) vs. $199 I paid for a B&M (same part) that I installed in my last TT. And, I'm sure it costs no more to manufacture the short shifter than the standard shift. Wait, I answered my own question, Porsche makes $750 on this option - nice margin!

There was at least one big write up about the b&M shifter vs. the Porsche short shifter. I had the b&M... and 2 gear would not go in sometimes... there was a number of people online saying the same thing.... I currently have the Porsche shifter and my 2 shift problem went away. I go about 5 times a year to the 1/4 mile track... so I bang thru the gears.... mysteriously the problem is gone. I have over 30K miles on it and its my 3rd turbo.. so I consider myself a regular driver... I have some feedback if u know what I mean. Some guys on the other hand, swear that the B&M shifter is identical to the porsche one. They had them both in hand. I also had them both in my hand... I even measured them.... in my opinion.. htye are not the same... B&M maybe makes it... but I dont think nor my Porsche mechanic( senior technician for 25 years at Loeber motors in Chicago doesnt think so).. and he knows "whats UP". But then again, many guys here swear that it is. I chose to sell it on ebay.. get the porsche one... and sleep peacefully.... Just a margin of safety- thats all. There even was a memo(one which I couldnt find cause the issue came up too late) about after market shifters( that they should be reported to porsche NA- incase the tranny blows then porsche will not replace the trans... and thus thats the case now- so be careful.
As a matter of fact, there is one black 03 turbo standing and my mechanic is replacing the tranny... after he also had 2nd gear problems... whats inside ?... B&M shifter- well he is lucky cause he quietly took out the B&M and put the stock one... otherwise... he would be $15k in the hole.
just a thought.
P.S> not trying to start this war again.... But Porsche is NOT replacing trannies if aftermarket shifters are installed.

While I don't have the experience with the B&M kit, I decided to go conservatively, and had the OEM installed for peace of mind (warranty, etc). So far, it's very clean with shifts (not metallic or rough).

My dealer cheerfully installed a B&M in my '04 TT Cab with no hassle whatever.

I love it.

Put the B&M in my TT yesterday. It feels much more mechanical (??) than the softy, Wallstreet, candyass feel of the OEM standard shifter. It will take getting used to. The OEM shifter and tranny feel of my S, however, is smooth like Butta'! I'm not changing out that feller.

I am very happy with the EVO short shift kit. Mainly because the stock shifter broke on me down the backstreet of Mid-Ohio. That was when I knew I had to have something else besides a cheap piece of plastic holding my shifter to the cable.

Oh, and by the way, the Porsche short shifter is made by B&M.

Still waiting for EVO to get the motor to PES. Found out today that EVO had the wrong address on the shipment and it came back to them. DUH!!!!

Now they say it will be there this Thursday. It's not like EVO has never sent anything to PES either.

PES says about 1 week to get everything back in, so maybe late next week?

You guys are going to put a serious dent in my wallet. I owe what I've done so far to this board. And to think that when I went from my 99 996 Cab to the TT Cab, it was all the power I could ask for...

Yea right...

Seriously... you guys have been a huge help in figuring this stuff out... thanks to all.

Buddy,
Is it looking like a Friday or Saturday of next week pickup? You're not going to stick that thing on a truck, are you?

No, I am really hoping to fly in for the Dyno tuning and drive it home. If PES gets the motor this Thursday then it may be late next week or early the following week. It just depends on how quickly PES gets their work done and when the Dyno time is scheduled.
