Trouble passing California Smog... help

I took my car to get its annual smog and failed the tail pipe portion passed but the Self diagnostics showed 2 items not passing readiness. They are Secondary air injection and Cat efficiency. Yet I had no fault codes. I took it to my local Indy to check for pending codes and nothing showed up. He reset it and still the same two items do not pass readiness. I have been running with 70mm exhaust from speedtech for almost four years now and have not had issues before. I am running with new larger turbos and tune with ultimate motorworks. Anyone have any ideas what could be causing my problem?

On my previous cars not ready usually means the obd has recently been reset and needs to be driven more. Have you disconnectted your battery recently or reset your ecu?

I would drive the car for a few miles and take it back and check once again. If that doesn't work try another spot but their print out should show what isn't passing.

I was told about driving for reset but it has been over 1500 miles since the tune and I have driven about 300 miles since the failed smog hoping the ecu would reset but it doesn't.

I did contact Kevin and suggested that the cat may be going out on the exhaust? But I would assume if the cat was failing I would have thrown a code?

I seem to recall Tony at epl posting about some issues with certain CATs and their operating temperatures, etc.... What exhaust, what tune?

if your cat is wearing out, your cat monitor will not be ready. sometimes it will not throw a code

you should consider going through a readyness drive.

it basically involved driving really slow and realy relly slow for a certain distance.

additionally, resetting your ecu only increases the amount of time before ALL readiness monitors come up ready.

if your cat readiness isnt coming ready AFTER a readiness drive, youll need some cat work done. I have had failed like you have due to "unready" monitors, but went to all ready (save 2A) after a readiness drive. Mind you, Ive done more than 5000 miles after a ecu reset and STILL had more than 2 unready monitors.

DO A READINESS DRIVE!

then report back...

In cali, im pretty sure that you can have ONE readyness monitor come up not ready.

My secondary air never comes ready, but I have passed no probs x3.

I had the same issue, and agree with this prognosis. Here's a handy cheat sheet about the kind of driving you need to do to reset the readyness codes.

Admitedly, staying below 3000 rpm is torture.

Good luck!

I passed easy with just the speedtech 200 cell exhaust and headers. Not sure now that I did a softronic flash what will happen. (But I can alway flash it back to stock myself). Cats don't last forever especially when you start flashing the ECU and drive a bit harder than the normal person. Of course the conservative color of your car might have something to do with it. It looks like a moving violation sitting still. Very nice BTW.

I tried doing the crazy slow drive to reset the rediness codes but still no luck. This exhaust has passed the test on three other occasions but maybe the cats are starting to fail?

cats failing wouldnt cause your problem. did you do a crazy slow drive? or follow the spec for readiness?
