Question to Pwdrhound ???

Hi all,

Since i am new here and can't send a private message i am asking here.

Pwdrhound,

I just purchased a 2001 911tt last October and i think i have the same wheels that you have as a picture when you post messages. I have no info on them except they are 19 inch and made in italy. Can you give me any more information on these wheels.

Thanks in advance.

George

Wheels

Sorry i'm clueless they are 19 inch wheels and i thought the turbo only came with 18 inch wheels from the factory. i used an inspection mirror to read what is behind the wheel i can only make out that they were made in Italy. Again Pwdrhound has the same (or VERY similar) wheels on his Avatar pic. The car is put up for it's winter nap in upstate NY so it won't be spring until i can pull the wheels for a closer look.

The turbo came with 18s

Yours are aftermarket
They could be original RUF wheels, or they could be reproduction items

Thanks !

Thanks alot, Mine have the Porsche emblem as the center cap. I'd post a pic. but there is not enough room in the garage to move around let alone take a picture. Oh and it's 5 degrees outside here tonight.

A little more digging..........

Looks like mine are after market. I was able to see with an inspection mirror that they were made in Italy.

Now all i need to do is figure out if the tire sizing is correct. It has Hancook 235/35/19 on the front and 295/30/19 on the rears. I've read that we have to be careful with the tires to ensure they have the same diameter.

Thanks again for your help.

The nominal height of the sidewall is calculated as: width*profile/100. So for your tires, you would have:
235*.35 = 82.25
295*.30 = 88.5
So the total height of the rear tires should be about 12.5 mm larger than the fronts. I am not 100% sure, but I thought that the spec was that the difference should be no more than 10 mm. Maybe someone else knows for sure, or you could search this forum. It's been discussed many times. The problem is that the different size tires make the front diff work harder.

FYI, stock tires were 225/40/18 and 295/30/18. Those heights would be:
225*.40 = 90
295*.30 = 88.5
for a nominal height difference of 3 mm.

Hi George,
The wheels on my 02 Rturbo are authentic RUF 19" wheels and they are made in Italy. Most of the replicas will be Chinese made or someplace in the far East. My guess is yours are real if they are made in Italy. If you have authentic RUFs you can easily tell by looking at the rear as you should have a 35mm adapter with these wheels on a 996tt. The fronts measure 19x8.5 ET56 and the rears are 19x11 ET70. The proper tires to run on these are 235/35/19 and 315/25/19. If you can look at the back of the spokes on the wheel you will be able to see "Made in Italy", "RUF-Automobile", and the wheel size and offset stamped into the individual spokes. Hope that helps.

Thanks Again

You Guys are awesome !

Looked at the wheels again. I can find that they say they were made in Italy. But nothing that say who made them. The rear spacers have "HR" on them. Guess i'll have to pull a wheel to really have a look at them.

I want to use the car for autocross and DE days (I live within a couple hours of Watkins Glen). Do i need to worry about the rear tire size before i track it. Seems the 295/30/19 are too big and i need 315/25/19's

The car is pretty much stock (AFAIK) and the exhaust note is depressingly civil. I don't intend to go too far with the mods...... maybe a new exhaust and intake mod. Mine is a tiptronic (I swore i'd NEVER buy a Porsche with an automatic).

Again thanks for all the info.

Regards,

George
