Front Shaft Removal

Halfway through a spring install. Rears were a piece of cake to install. Having an issue in the front. I was told the front shaft will un-clip it self and slide out without having to remove the 6 bolts connected to the front diff. Is this accurate? Mine doesn't seem to be coming out. My impact didn't budge the axle nut.

A six foot pipe over a breaker bar and about two hundred pounds of person bouncing on the end should loosen the axle nut.

The axle nut was crazy to get off, then you need a soft hammer to beat the shaft out. I didn't do that, I opted to pop out the spline from the front diff. Anyone else do that - pop the splines out?

I just remove the axle nut. yes it is tight but why risk damaging the seals? You can remove the 6 bolts that mount the cv's to the stub axle on the front drive.

Op, impact gun will remove it. It has been sometime since I did a awd set up but on the stock strut you can pop the spring over the lower perch and compress the strut by hand and get it under the fender lip and remove the strut. I cover the fender lip and area with the blue tape just in case. It is close. I do that with the gt2 or rwd converted tt. you may need to turn the wheel to the left lock to work on the right and vise versa.

Just installed front h&r springs tonight. I removed the 6 bolts at the diff and the ball joint. Came out fairly easy.

Anyone have the torque values for the six bolts on the Axle to the front drive?

I'm just going to remove the six bolts from the front diff. Everything else is already apart.

Tim, are you saying to compress the spring and slide it down the strut shaft? If that works, it seems I wouldn't have had to take everything apart.

Not compress it but actually pop the spring over the lower perch on the strut. Then you can just turn the spring like a corkscrew to lower the spring passed it perch on the strut. then you can grab the top of the strut and compress it by hand with the spring out of the way. The coil overs I have used went back in no problem because of the lower ride heights or over al length of the new strut.
