Rear spoiler failure -- Add me to the list
Rear spoiler failure -- Add me to the list
I don't know why I didn't think it would happen to me. Probably because this car is used very little. It is a pampered garage queen that has been driven <500 miles per year the last few years.
I was going to take some pictures of it and I like the looks with the spoiler up. I hit the interior switch to run it up and it goes up uneven. Looked under the ram cap and there is a leak.
I am not even going to entertain trying to repair this set up so it can fail again. I will remove it and thow it in the pile next to the original slave cylinder.
The fixed wing thing from ebay is already on order.

It seems to happen when we let the cars sit for long periods of time.
I left my car in the garage with the spoiler up for two months...that's when it all started.
The good part is, I'm enyoing a GT2 rear wing now.

knowing the ( ahem ) delicate nature of these. i would never buy them "used". i think that's just asking for trouble. so i have bought my "last" set of wing rams and parts. i will miss their mercurial nature. or not.
but as all of us with wing problems can surely agree. these spoilers are facoct, in any language.

todd, pls let us know how your fixed kit works out. i'm waiting now, and every hard run off the freeway, i'm running around back of my car. manually hammering down the left side of the spoiler until it's flush again with the decklid. the thought of people behind me pointing and making fun of my spoilers flaccid condition
bothers me.
guys dont leave your spoilers deployed it WILL cause a failure. The Spoiler ram is designed in such a way that the spring returns the spoiler to the down position and hydraulic pressure raises it.
If you leave the spoiler in the up position for even a few days, it can/will cause a leak such that they become uneven.
This happened to me once (wihout knowing how it happened) years ago, then again recently when my motor failed, due to improper mounting from the replacement 4 yrs ago (power tab broke off).
SO it got stuck in the up position with a burned out motor.
Of course while im sourcing a motor, then I see the wing uneven days later...
