Need Help Identifying This Hose
Need Help Identifying This Hose
I recently got a CEL (misfire) that was on one day and gone the next so after looking on the forums I realized that I should most likely change the coil packs and the MAF. My 2001 TT has 29,000 miles on it now and while I did change the packs they did look like they were brand new.
Now for my main question, after looking around I noticed this hose (sensor?) that appears to be broke off. Can anyone tell me what it is and what it does? If you have a Porsche part number so I could get a replacement that would be great as well.
This is located on the driver’s side behind the rear wheel and goes into the hose that connects to the turbo.

Thanks in advance and I appreciate any input you can offer me.

I think that's the charcoal cannister connection - part of the recycling of the exhaust vapors - an emmissions system hose that can actually be left dangling. The only downside being a smell of fuel that is otherwise sucked into the motor and burned...

^^ exactly
OK now I am confused. I got one person telling me not to drive the car and the other telling me to just let it dangle. I looked some more and it looks like it is coming off the pressure pipe. I want to make sure what it is and if it needs to be replaced before I take this back on the road.
I am not saying let it dangle and don't worry! I am saying it looks to me like the fuel fumes line that plumbs the excess fuel fumes into the intake air and recycles them through the motor to be burned - it's an emmissions thing. If it is that line, which connects just before the drivers side turbo, my experience and understanding is that it can dangle free and you will just get a wiff of fuel smell from time to time, HOWEVER, the hole in the pipe to the turbos is bad and must be sealed, otherwise unmetered air will be sucked into the system. Even more concerning is that sand can be sucked in and ruin the turbos, motor, etc. The unmetered air can also trigger a CEL. I am just saying it looks like that line to me, but it could be something different, so have it professionally diagnosed!

Hey John
As always you explain it very well and I appreciate your response. I have looked closer at it and agree with you on what it is. Just the same I am going to order the parts like Todd suggested and make sure it is right. Always better to be safe than sorry. I guess that means I will just have to take out the GSX-1300R for some fun tomorrow instead of the Porsche. As they say two wheels are better than none!
Thanks again for everyone's help and have a fun and safe driving weekend.

I appreciate both of your responses. I think that this maybe why I got an intermittent CEL especially since my coil packs looked just like the new set I put in.
I am going to take Todds advice and give Sunset a call tomorrow morning and get the parts needed.
Thanks again
