Very Impressed With New Z06
Well, stock for stock, C5 Z06 versus Turbo or Turbo S is very close. IMHO the X50 is just barely a tad quicker, regular Turbo just a tad less quick. Try to run against one, and you better be in the right gear and run right or the Corvette will win for sure.
From what we know about the upcoming C6 Z06 versus the 997TT, it seems that the new Corvette should be quicker. Handling and braking and track durability. . .we'll see.
As far as depreciation goes, Corvettes and Porsches are toys. Toys depreciate. Sure, a Honda Accord depreciates less, and if you buy an ultra-exotic and don't drive it, you may actually even make money. But as they say, the difference between the men and the boys is the price of the toys. Buyer beware and play at your own risk. On the bright side, I figure the car addiction is cheaper in the long run than a psychiatrist and antidepressants with fewer side effects.
I'm number 3 on one list for the C6 Z06 at a local dealer, and #7 at another. I don't expect the same sales, service or ownership experience from a $60-75K Vette that I get with a Porsche. The new Z is about one thing only- blistering performance. The new Z06 has alot of technology, so selling it short through car snobbery is somewhat foolish. I won't be selling my Turbo S.
RacerX, are you sure it was a C6 Z06 you ran? I know there are a few test mules on the road, and if it was a C6Z, you very much surprised the driver because stock for stock, a C6Z should handily walk a 996 Turbo or GT2. More details please.

. In the races I have seen from 0-100 a stock 911TT runs step for step with a Z06, & actually is faster many times. The X50 is quite a bit faster than a C5 Z06. As proven in the Corvette Monthly where it was almost .5 sec. faster than the Z06 in the 1/4 mi.
I think I have seen some of the vids you are talking about and the concl was that it was a modified C6 wide-body conversion and not the actual Zo6. The new zo6 may not have the best interior or prestige but with a competant driver will take down 99% of the cars on the street or track.
I'll have my order placed right after I see how the first year run goes......you guys know how GM likes to get down with added power in the ensuing years. As much as Dave Hill promises there will be no HP bump, I'd like to hedge my bets.
C6 Z06=Best Vette yet.

Check out www.digitalcorvettes.com for the vids you're looking for. There is one hell of a library of pics and vids there.
sorry for talking so long to respond as i havent been on line for a few days....There are MANY c6 z06's out here with manufactures plates...testing....i have seen at least 3 that i can think of in the past week alone, again an inherient problem with having a vette...they are all over, however the person driving the car..the gm tester, and i pulled over and we spent a good 1/2 hour talking to each other and he has told me that there have been NO major issues as stated above by a poster....i am in no way associated with gm and i could care less i was just trying to tell u guys that this car is pretty freakin awesome bone stock performance wise in the straight away.....i didnt get it on a track or a course and the seats and interior, while it does look plain, are leapyears ahead of the c5 vettes.....clean simple functional yet probably still gm....however satelite, pw pl nav air in a sub 4 sec car for under 75k....come on! oh yeah the car is not to hard on the eyes either... NOT to mention to keep up with this car or BEAT it in a tt porsche u gotta modify the **** out of your car and deal with ALL the issues associated with that and i dont think i have to tell anyone on this board the stories about that

I would hope the C6Z would be faster than a non-X50 Turbo - the C6Z is GM's latest and greatest engineering endevor. The 996 Turbo is what Porsche engineered over five years ago. Will the C6Z be faster than an X50 Turbo? Probably, but not by as large a margin, and maybe within the "driver error" deviation. I beleive the 997 Turbo and C6Z will be so close in performance that it will depend on the driver.
In the end though, if a few tenths of a second difference in acceleration is what's most important to someone, then they should buy the "faster" car. If a car can do 0-60 in 3.7 sec. or less (the X50 does that now), and it's important to the owner how a car delivers the "driving experience", then the extra money would be worth it to go with the 997 Turbo.
