The pic of D hill is a p-chop. Here is a link to the ZO6 vid at the dragstrip. THe yellow car is a modded C6 not a ZO6. watch the whole thing, the best run is the last one.

Dock,

i should have been more clear. from rumors, mostly on this board, i heard things about the 997tt. don't know that any of it has been confirmed. actually, i hope porsche gives us 525-550 bhp along with a more radical suspension setup. my point was that the c6 z06 has made a huge upgrade from what has been confirmed by gm and that if porsche pulls the incrimental increase in power i will be keeping the 996tt for a while.

on a lighter note, what fun would a porsche website be without a little porsche v. vette? people been arguing about this for over 30 years

That was my point.

So GM puts an additional 95 hp in the ZO6...how long has it been since it's last power upgrade?

Porsche upgrades the Turbo's power two years into the production run, and now they are adding another 55 hp in an upgrade that includes a much better suspension.

SO - if someone is thinking about going from a non-X50 996 Turbo to a 997 Turbo, they will be getting an additional 85 hp. That doesn't sound "incremental" to me.

And as far as the "horsepower" number goes, that particular item doesn't mean as much to me as what the performance of the car is. The X50 Turbo can do 0-60 in 3.7 sec now... you think the 997 Turbo might do that...or better?

Say the C6Z does 0-60 a few tenths of a second faster, or maybe it's a little faster across the board. Is that enough to swing a potential buyer away from the 997 Turbo? Does that mean the C6Z is a "better" car?

Say the 997 Turbo is a little faster than the C6Z. Does that mean it's a "better" car than the C6Z?

A sports car being a few tenths of a second faster, or having "more" horsepower than another sports car are IMHO such a small part of the car's overall persona that they don't rate any concern.

glad I'm not the only one that misses the FRC

Dock , the 911 and Corvette feel very different . The former is tense and wound up . The latter feels almost too relaxed like all it's bolts are at 90% of TQ specs , then gathers itself in the split second that the throttle is punched or the steering wheel is turned .
Test numbers don't tell you that , but 30 minutes seat time in a base C6 and a base 997 will tell the sensitive driver all he needs to know .
Buy the one that feels " right " , I say .

Apparently GM is sending a production ZO6 to you guessed it, the Nurburgring to lay the smack down on the world of performance cars, July auto mags should have reviews. The car is being air freighted over on Thursday as rumor has it.

Actually, the new Z06 should run mid 11s out of the box. I've seen a few bone stock 2002+ Z06s run low 12s out of the box (a few might have cracked into the high 11s with perfect launches) and that was at 415hp. At 500hp, expect mid-high 11s.

If that 12.0 @ 120 was a real C6 Z06, then something is wrong with the car. A stock 2002+ C5 Z06 with 415hp will cut 116 (some even 117mph traps). To only cut a 120mph trap with 85hp more is silly.

I will guess 11.6 @ 124mph for the final specs in the 1/4, bone stock, on the new C6 Z06.

I remember reading some of the posts regarding those runs and all the cars runnning that day was running slow. With a strong headwind, high temps and bad driver, there are too many variables for a verdict. Veteran drap strip guys are hitting high 11's with the stock C5 Z06 so mid maybe low 11's are realistic.

I was able to pull a 12.29 in mine with just exhaust + heavy 19" wheels (both mods are offsetting), so basically back to stock 1/4 mile times.

That car in the video was a regular C6 corvette. It was not the new C6 Z06. Whether it had mods or not I am not sure, but it wasnt a Z06.

The Z06 has huge 8piston Red calipers which this car didnt have. Also the flares and badging were not visible.

The Z06 is still the best bang for the buck no matter which way you swing it... It will never be a Porsche in terms of feel or handling, but, for the price you pay, you get ALOT of car.
