Need your thoughts on my thoughts..
Okay, I know that many of you are waiting for the 997 turbo to come out and will jump on it. I know it will be a better car all around. But I just look at the delta between what my 02TT will be worth and what it will cost to go to a 997TT stock plus mod dollars...
So my thought's are:
I love the 996TT and it is one great looking car. The sticker on my car was 139K. I have put at least 30K (more but I'm afraid to count) in it with mods.. So is the loss I will take to move on to a 997TT worth what I will get in the new car? To me it will be even a greater loss as I will have to mod the 997TT to get the same or better performance.
So I am thinking about keeping the 996TT and in the next 8-12 month putting in the IA/EVO GT800 package. I know that many will say throwing more money at bad money already is not a good option, but
The 996TT with the GT800 kit will be a better performing car than the 997TT. When the block is cracked any wear I have with 25K and stage IV will be taken care of and I love my car already.
So when I go to meets, I will be the guy with the old Turbo that people will be talking about as we do the 930's today... But it will kick most of the new ones ****....
I would then wait for the 998TT and make a move then.. I would have owned the 996TT for a long time and you could say gotten my money out of it in enjoyment over a long period of time..
It's not like the 997TT is not going to depreciate the same after the allocations increase. It's not an Fcar with limited allocations. Porsche will make all they can sell and more.
So am I crazy?
(Those that know me respond about my thoughts to that question, not me in general
)

Gary,
I think the very same way as you. I have closer to $200,000.00 in my car and would be lucky to sell it for $85,000.00 that is totally stupid to me. I will just keep this car for a very long time and someday down the road pick up a 997 or 998 turbo.
In the meantime I will still have a turbo Porsche that will waste anything stock from the factory save a Carrera GT or Enzo, which would still be a close race.
Your thinking is right on brother!

You are not crazy. It depends to whether
- you like to mod your car
- you like to buy new car
Some people prefer to have the 997TT and not mod it because they want something new but if you prefer to have the performance from GT800, then do it. I myself already spent more than 40k for this fat ***... I need to move on.

The new mod... Stage IV to GT800 would be to keep me interested like buying a new car...
Gary: do the GT800 and smoke those 997TT and you will be happy, trust me, but I know deep inside your heart you want that 997TT HAHAHAAHA

Hi Gary,
I think part of the equation is how long you'll be satisfied after doing the next mods to your car? If you're starting to think about a new car, then maybe the next round of mods won't keep you in the game with your current car.
I don't think there will be a huge price jump with the 997TT. Porsche seems to embrace incremental improvement with imcremental price increases. You could always buy a pretty plain 997TT and mod it to your heart's desire.
I'm wondering if Porsche will right come out of the gate with both a new Turbo and a Turbo S. They seem to like this strategy.
Are you on the list for a 997TT? Do you know how soon you could get one? I'm #1 at my dealer and I'll get it, but I don't know how long I'll keep it. Probably just long enough to see what it's like.

I am not on a list... Was not planning on buying one of the first out. I'm not bored with my car yet. The jump in performance will keep me for a while which is why I was waiting 8-12 months to do it. Plus more GT800 kits will be done and more of the bugs will be out. I have always bought new cars every 2 years at the most even my daily driver so this will be a change for me..
I just wanna be like Mana

As long as the current car is built to last, your plan sounds smart. Of course, when friends show up with mod'ed 997TT's you know this whole discussion will be out the window.
