GT2 slave mod. Welding the pump and tank

I have no plans on returning to the factory config, Would it be a bad idea to weld the pump and tank shut (where you plumb in the old fittings that are no longer used)

BTW what do you guys do with the one dead line that is no longer used that goes to the tank? I know it does nothing, but looks stupid just hanging out hehe

I just left it all attached like the stock configuration and capped off the two lines under the car like EvoMS recommends.

I guess the ideal way to do it would be to get a tip/GT2tank and PS pump and remove all the old lines. It would look stock and save a few ounces of weight. But that's probably pretty cost and labor prohibitive unless you have the engine out and need to replace those parts anyway.

My game plan is to install a GT2 pump when I do the conversion. (I'm dropping engine for other maint.)

Can you elaborate on the removing of the drive coupler and why that was performed? My engine is out right now and my shop tapped the gearbox for the GT2 slave, put in the GT2 clutch fork and also the GT2/tip reservoir. They also plugged one part of the power steering pump and removed the lines that went to the old reservoir. So how does the drive coupler factor in and what role does it play? They didn't mention anything about that...

There are essentially 2 pumps in the stock Turbo power steering pump. One side of the PS pump pumps fluid to the power steering rack. The other side of the pump pumps fluid to the stock slave system. Once you remove that stock slave system and start capping lines, you need to "uncouple" the slave pump inside stock power steering pump otherwise it will keep pumping fluid through the lines. You either end up with leaks or a busted power steering pump.

When you do the GT2 slave conversion you're suppose to take out the stock power steering pump, open it up (it opens in two halves) and take out this little gear coupler that connects the two sides of the pump. Search for the EVOms GT2 slave install instructions on here, it explains what you have to do with pictures and everything.

Is it necessary to also change out the master along with the slave? I noticed the Evoms kit swaps them both out for some reason. I am getting the gearbox tapped just like on the GT2 with GT2 slave and reservoir installed along with removing the internal PS coupler and all the external lines. I may have misunderstood but I thought my shop said there is no need to change the master however. Just wanna make sure we're not overlooking anything before the motor and gearbox go back in the car.

Yes, you definitely need to change the master. The stock master has different seals and brake fluid will destroy those seals. The GT2 master is designed to use brake fluid.

I ended up having all of the unused ports welded shut a few months ago with no problems at all.

Yep -- don't forget the drive coupler. Mine started squealing like crazy when the shop forgot that step.

I talked to my shop and they are removing the coupler from the PS pump, just ordered the GT2 master and have already installed the GT2 reservoir so they could just remove the old lines instead of capping them off.
