It's a long story but essentially it has been about 2 years since I have had the car in my possesion for any length of time. During this period the car was sent to Philly for where the intial Stage 5 was done, car was then sent to California for additional tuning, then we decided to do the European Car Shootout so the car stayed in Cali for a while, then after the shootout brought the car home for short period then decided to do internal upgrade shipped the car to EVO, then I went into rehab for 6 months, then we said don't do the internals car was shipped back to Michigan, the car came back I was going to sell it then there was a problem with the motor then the car went to PES then the motor went to EVO then I decided to keep the car then the motor came back to PES now the car is almost done and I am going to pick it up soon.

WHEW that is the highly condensed Reader's Digest version of my story.

buddy,

When I think of your car I think of a milestone/crossroads for PES and/or EVO. They had Stage I thru IV, then your car came along with Stage V. It was really pushing the envelope for it's time. Then came the GT640, 700, 750 and 800.

It appears they came about through the experimentation on your car. I may be wrong. It doesn't appear many Stage V's were ever made and I don't see the V in the current line up.

Can you expound from your perspective?

Yeah Chad,

There was one other prototype car before mine and then my car which they continued to try some new things with. It's kind of unfortunate that they haven't stood behind me more than they have. Seems like my car was definately a testing ground that sprung them foward with the current offering of packages.

Oh well you pay to play I guess.

THe "Other" Stage V car resides here on the east coast. Tony has borrowed it a few times from its owner to join us on our runs. It is a seal grey car with a TechArt body kit. I will never forget the first run that Tony joined us with it. I met him and the two of us caravaned up to the meeting spot. I recall seeing him as a speck in my rear view mirror as I was leading the way up to the meet. I blinked and all of a sudden his car filled my mirror! It was astounding and frankly the catalyst for me to start my upward spiral with tuning.

buddy,

No doubt about it, your car was one of the trailblazers. In my mind there still is a division between the Stage 1-4 and the GT 640, 700, 750 and 800. I realize the latest generation numbers are crank hp numbers and your car probably elipses the 640 and 700, but what are the real differences or innovations that seem to separate these classes of tuning?

Chad,

I am not really sure of all the differences but I know they now use the K16 housing with the Garrett internals so it is a straight bolt on. Also the throttle body is somewhat different. Maybe Todd can elaborate on the differences between my MONGREL and the GT packages.
