Problem after GIAC Level 2 Upgrade

I recently had my '01 TT upgraded to the Stage 2 GIAC program. After picking up the car, once I reached the higher boost ranges (1.1 - 1.2) the car started to stuter and hesitate. My check engine light then came on, so I took back to the shop to have it checked. They found a code saying that cylinder 3 and 5 were misfiring. They reset the code and re-flashed the ECU. The check engine has not come back on, but it still has the hesitation at high boost. They have claimed that this may be due to the fact that I should get the plugs replaced, but I am not sure this may correct the problem. I say an earlier posting about a lack of boost, but this seems different. Any advice?

It could very well be your plugs.

Shortly after my Stage 2 GIAC upgrade I noticed stutter when on boost (WOT) in the higher gears (3rd and higher). I had 17k on the OEM plugs when I upgraded the ECU, so I changed my plugs (DIY) and the problem was fixed.

I bet it's the plugs, you need the upgraded FR6's and this should solve your problem.

I had the exact same problem when we first flashed my ECU with the Revo program. It was time for my Service 2 anyways so they did that and then the engineer from Revo road tuned my car. The problem was solved but I'm not sure whether it was a problem with the flash or if the plugs solved the problem.

It is the plugs. Change them. We see this all the time.

On modded cars the plugs cant hang as long as non modded cars. 15,000 miles seems to be the magic number. It looks like additive fouling in the instances Im aware of, ask AMG ETR, same thing on his car. Im sure Steven has seen as much of this as anyone.....

I got them from SunsetParts@sunsetimports.com for $5.07 + shipping. Be sure and inspect the electrodes for shipping damage. They are about $9 at the dealer. Mine were shipped with some heavy brake pads and 1 plug was damaged.

Speaking of boost, at what RPM should I get 1.0-1.2 of boost? I tested yesterday and I'm getting 1.0 at 5k RPM. TIA.

The OEM intake plenum and cast piping is very restrictive. With my stage 4 GT kit I was only flashing 1.1 and holding 1.0. After I installes the FVD Aluminum Intake Plenumn I was seeing 1.3 and holding 1.2 bar consistently.

To get a consistent and reliable boost reading you need to do a pull in top gear from approx 2000 to 2500 RPM to just short of red line (provided you havent run out of road or dyno ). Do this two or three times and average the peak result, this is your true boost level.
