Brake Duct Question
Brake Duct Question
I cannot seem to find a definitive answer to what brake ducts work on the front of the 996 Turbo. The cheap plastic ones from the GT3, GT3 RS, GT3 Cup? Or is there a better solution? Pics are always helpful. Just trying to keep the temp down.

Both work, but the GT2 is really big, the GT3 I just installed on my 996 turbo, it's no big difference to the stock turbo ones.
However, in Germany the GT3 Version is dirt cheap, 7 EURO a pair at the Porsche dealer, so what... :-)
The GT2 version also costs more than 200 EURO over here..
If you have brake trouble, go for the GT2 s ..

The GT2 link doesn't work. But I spoke with Sonen Porsche and they said the stock turbo parts are nearly identical to the GT3 part...So what gives? I can see adding ducting and channeling it to the rotor but do these really make a difference?

They are pricey bacause it is a PMNA part. These are what comes on the Cup cars. If you track your car this is what you want. These ducts are comprised of the 996TT ducts with a lower scoop riveted to them. If you drive it on the street then either the OE or GT3 ducts work. The GT2 Cup ducts hang pretty low and will take a beating in DD use... I have the GT2 cup ducts which are designed to tie in perfectly with the GT2 fender liners and they work very well together. You can also use them with the Turbo liners with light modification.

The GT3 ducts are about as worthless as the OEM 996TT ducts. That's why they are about $20. The GT2 ducts are what you want for optimum brake cooling:

My car is pretty low as it is. I need a solution that doesn't hang any lower. My car's a scraper!

GT2 Ducts
I have the GT2 ducts as well and agree with the previous poster. If you track the car, spend the money. They make a significant difference in brake cooling and with our heavy cars, you need all the cooling you can get.
I think this has been answered before but I can't find it.....do the GT2 Ducts go on without any mod if you still have 996TT fender liner?......if not, what were the tweeks needed.
Thanks in advance.
Thanks in advance.
You need to zip tie the front portion of the GT2 ducts to the TT fender liner since the mounting location is not there as on the GT2 liner. It works just fine. To get a perfect fit you need the GT2 liners but they're pricey. I think I paid around $500 for a replacement pair last year.
Greg, they fit fine, these are what I have and were called cup ducts back when I bought them. On the street you have to be careful of debris that can knock the ducts off, just make sure you drive over any debris along the centerline of the car to avoid the ducts. Speedbumps don't bother them because they elevate along with the wheels as you cross over them.
