Check this thread from LS1 tech... Typically anything on that site is pretty well vetted for truth etc... These guys swear by it.

Adding 1oz per 5 gallons of gas 2 stroke oil improves the engines idle, smoothness, cleans it up and increases mpg. Thoughts?

No. No. No. And no.

Oil in the gas affects octane rating. These Porsche engines to deliver their level of performance run at incipient detonation and they do not need any compromise of the octane of the gasoline.

Besides gasoline already has a bit of oil (1%?) in it for rust protection.

I have to admit that was an interesting thread/topic over there. I only skimmed about 5 pages of it, but a lot of folks are reporting great results.

I sent it to some mechanical engineers I know...will try to solicit their feedback as well. If nothing else, I'd try it in my lawn mower as a test!

I way prefer unicorn tears to two stroke oil.

I did get a response from one of my buddies who is a mechanical engineer (specializes in engines, works in an engine lab) and, to paraphrase his much longer reply, it went mostly like this:

Adding this small part of 2 stroke oil is neither likely to help or harm your engine, but chances are good you won't be able to notice anything as a result. If there was a widespread problem with the quality of our fuel now, you wouldn't regularly see engines and fuel systems lasting 200k+ miles.

So, in other words, don't waste your time or money or effort on this.

I have done this with my race engines, usually on the first fill up after its been sitting a while in order to lubricate the piston rings and cylinder walls.

This was was in the rx-7 community when exceeding stock setups. The crappy oil injection system wouldn't do to well with single turbos and upwards of 400hp.

That was a 1.8L rotary, not a 3.6L flat 6.

Did that in my RX8 and did help with less oil consumption. Never happened to me but I did read that it did mess up the fuel filter pretty bad and those cars had filters in the tank made it a pain in the *** to change.

Rotary engines did benefit from 2stroke oil in gas mix to lub the seals
