Having some clutch issues

Looking for some advice here. I have a 2004 TT with about 25K miles. The clutch is very stiff and hard to depress when the car is cold. After driving it for a couple miles the clutch seems to be working fine. I took it to the indy mechanic and he tells me I need to replace the clutch (parts $1100 plus about $600 in labor). I didn't expect to have to replace the clutch with such low mileage. I thought maybe it was the accumulator (from what I have read on here). Any thoughts or recommendations? He tells me if I continue to drive it it could further damage other parts, bearings etc. Sound legit or not?

Sounds like accumulator from description, not pressure plate.

Had same issue in the past, it was the accumulator. I also replaced the slave at the same time.

Well i just want to post it had this issue. If your clutch is upgraded it could be other things. So i was having heaviness and softness replaced accumulator and slave. Well it wasnt it then i few months later i broke and snapped something. It was my sleeve that went bad it had grooves from it and broke off the throwout bearing.

I guess they say anything can happen lol. This was done by not luburcating the sleeve and throwout bearing it was bone dry. My performance clutch kit has only 8k miles before those other parts went.

When you start the car does the clutch pedal go down more almost like it's vacuum activated? What about your clutch master, is there fluid leaking out of it?

My car had those symptoms and it was the slave and accumulator that was the issue. I replaced with new parts and the clutch is back to being perfect again (for now till it fails again im told).

I have the same feeling, upgraded CM stage 3, feels like the springs ready to snap? Took it to my guy who took it all apart and said everything looked great condition? Maybe the springs weren't strong enough for upgraded clutch?? Throwout bearing look great, no grooves?

Ya your clutch should always be soft no matter what since this was fixed never ever had any hard pedal even when car is turned off but before you can see the pic below mine was the sleeve they need to look at that closely it was hanging on there. It made a groove in the middle that is not good at all well for me it wasnt lol. This is why my clutch was getting brick hard it was catching that newly groove on the sleeve.

I can now pump my clutch with the car off 10 times and still soft and before not even once with the car on or off still hard when pushing down before the fix.

Sorry but those parts are installed dry. They are coated, sleeve and T/O. You do not want any lube by the disc or the P plate. Looking at the pics of your car I find it super hard that those parts have 8K on them, Well maybe if the car was under water for 1K

Ok to be exact my clutch has 8,454 miles on it. Also call porsche they said never ever put a new sleeve on dry were only talking about the sleeve.

Ohh I'm not sure how many miles on the sleeve my car has 50k on ot but I do know the miles on my clutch.

If a dual mass fw was remove and a lwfw was install at the same time as the disc and plate then the sleeve has the same mileage (sleeve is different dual mass to lwfw) unless it was a used piece. The 964 long eared T/O bearing was designed for N/A cars with much less torque then a turbo motor. That means that the pressure plate it was used with by the factory was not as strong as the turbo P plate you are using.

turbo T/O (pic above) ears are much stronger over the 964.

I have some pics of those parts -- still bolted up though not loose -- from my 03 Turbo while it was in getting a new tranny (at around 40K miles) and what I can see of the surfaces of the parts they are rusty. I have a pic of the input shaft of the oil tranny and it is rusty too.

I can assure you my Turbo has not been under water at any time.
